Julia Davis Park

The 17th annual Soul Food Extravaganza is Saturday at Julia Davis Park. This is a free event but of course you need to purchase food tickets and then items will be a variety of food tickets per item. The event will run from 11 am to 8 pm and there will be entertainment and special activities for children. If you click here you can get a sneak preview of the menu of food items for the day.

Lakeview Park, Nampa

The annual crime prevention fair will be this weekend at Nampa's Lakeview Park. This event will involve law enforcement from all over the valley with several demonstrations of tactical units and special operations teams along with K-9 units. A child identification program will be offered for all children and there will be entertainment and food. There is no cost for anything including the food so everyone should plan on attending this Saturday August 1st from 10 am to 3 pm.

Nampa Civic Center

"Les Mis'erables'" is the latest production for Music Theatre Idaho and will open this Thursday at the Nampa Civic Center and will run for this weekend only. This is the story based on the novel by Victor Hugo and portrays the suffering of the French during one of their revelations. Idaho Senior Games

The Senior Games of Idaho are coming up in August but now is the time to register. The games will be happening all over the Boise area with the YMCA a central location for activities. The name is a little misleading because you qualify for the games at age 50 on a national level and age 40 for the state games. There are several levels of competition and you can get more information and sign up by clicking here.

Roaring Springs

The annual Great Dolphin Dunk will be at Roaring Springs Water Park on Sunday August 16th, but now is the time to adopt your dolphin. Hundreds will be dropped into the endless river at high noon next month and if you dolphin is among the first to cross the finish line you'll be the winner. The dolphins can be adopted for $5 each or 3 for $10 dollars by going to Roaring Springs or any Wal-Mart location in the valley. For more information you can click here.

Bad Bikes, Caldwell

Bikefest 2009 is this weekend at Bad Bikes in the Caldwell area. This is a gathering for all bikes with a rally and show and shine. There is a $15 entry fee for all bikes but to come and watch is free. Proceeds from the event will benefit the RSVP, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Everyone who attends is also encouraged to bring non-perishable food for donation to Valley Crisis Center. Bikefest kicks off Friday night at with registration and runs through Sunday at 1 pm when prizes will be awarded.

Deer Flat Refuge

The 4th annual Bio-Blitz will be this weekend at he Deer Flat Refuge at Lake Lowell in Canyon County. This is an attempt to get an inventory of all the critters in the Lake Lowell area. There is a special open house on Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm at the visitor's center and everyone is welcome and there is no charge. Bring the entire family and look for the signs off either Roosevelt or Indiana.

Idaho Center

It is day two of the Buck-a-Roo breakfast for the Snake River Stampede. Pancakes, eggs and sausage will be served from 7 am to 10 am. Inside the Idaho Center the children will have a special show of livestock. On Wednesday there will be a special fundraising effort for the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign. The funds will be used in the fight against and treatment for breast cancer. T-shirts will be on sale at the rodeo for the fundraising effort.

Idaho Center

The Snake River Stampede kicks off this week at the Idaho Center in Nampa. The slack competition, which is the overflow from the timed events, is today and tomorrow morning. Slack will start at 7:00 am and so will the breakfast. There is no charge to watch the slack competition and the breakfast will cost you $4 per person. The rodeo will start Tuesday night and runs through Saturday. This year the Miss Rodeo Idaho will have a fun raiser consisting of a stick horse rodeo for the children. It will be held on Saturday July 18th and the cost is $5 per child.

Heritage Park, Eagle

The first ever Eagle Arts Faire starts today (Friday) and runs through the weekend. The free event takes place at Eagle's Heritage Park and will feature all art forms from performance to painting to sculpture and more. Activities start today at 2 pm and goes until 8 tonight. Tomorrow will be from 8:30 am to 8 pm and Sunday is 11 am to 3 pm. Everything is free including the art activities for the children.

Lakeview Park, Nampa

The Nampa Kiwanis Club will host its annual steak fry tonight at Lakeview Park. The activities will run from 5 pm to 8 pm. The cost is $12 for adults who will have a steak dinner and $6 for children who will get a hamburger dinner. The proceeds from this event help Kiwanis throughout the year to help the community mostly through programs for youth.

Stagecoach Theatre

"Absence of a Cello" is the latest production for Stagecoach theatre. This slice of life comedy examines the lengths a broke scientist will go to land a job in the corporate world with way too much help from his over anxious family. The show opens this weekend and runs for the next three weeks. You can call 342-2000 to reserve your tickets in advance. Downtown Nampa

Snake River Stampede Days starts this weekend in Nampa. The Canyon County Sunrise Rotary Club will help kick off the day on Saturday with a breakfast. The cost is $5 per person and $3 for children with funds raised will going back to the community through the Rotary Club. The breakfast will run from 7 am to 11 am in the Downtown Nampa area.

Warhawk Air Museum, Nampa

A Salute to North American Aviation will be this weekend at the Warhawk Air Museum just off the Nampa Airport. The two day event will feature several vintage aircraft that will be on static display and will also be flying. Member sponsored rides will be available on some of the aircraft. In addition Col. Bud Anderson, retired will be the special guest speaker. Regular event pricing will be charged for admission this weekend. For more information you can click here and a schedule of events.

Nampa Salvation Army

The Nampa Salvation Army is offering a special Day Camp for children age 5-12. This program helps parents who are struggling to afford daycare. This camp is everyday Monday through Friday and the cost is only $80 per week. Activities for the children range from arts and crafts, games and adventures to "Wahooz Family Fun Center". The program could also use help for scholarships for those families who can't afford the $80 fee. If you would like to make a donation or sign up your children you can call 467-6586.

Expo Idaho (Fairgrounds)

The 7th annual Northwest Motorfest is this weekend at Expo Idaho. More than 700 cars will be on display with a raffle for a 1923 T-Bucket Roadster that will be given away. The raffle is a fundraiser for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Idaho granting wishes to children with life threatening medical conditions. Admission for the show has been dropped to $5 per person and will be both Saturday and Sunday. Happy Day stars Henry Winkler (the Fonz) and Donny Most (Ralph) will be here to meet fans and sign autographs. You can click here for more information.

New York Life

A fun run designed for the entire family is coming on August 8th. It's the "Run for your Life" and it will take place at the New York Life Building just off 13th and Myrtle starting at 9:00 am. There are two races a 5k run/walk at 9 am and a 1 mile Kid's race starting at 10:30. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 dollars for children 12 and under.
