College of Idaho

"Taste of the Harvest" is a fundraising event to celebrate the harvest season and raise funds for a scholarship to help aid the child of a migrant worker planning to attend the College of Idaho. The cost if $15 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, students and seniors are $10. The activities open at 1 pm and activities for everyone will run until 5 pm. There will be something for everyone with plenty of events for children.

Julia Davis Park

The annual fundraiser for the Idaho Humane Society called "See Spot Walk" is this weekend. The walk starts and ends at the band shell at Julia Davis Park. If you sign up ahead of time it will cost $20 for adults, $18 for groups of 4 or more and $15 for children 12 and under. If you wait until Saturday there is last minute signup available but it will cost you $5 extra. You can sign up on line by clicking here or go to any of the valley Zamzows stores.

Idaho State Historical Museum

"Museum comes to Life" is this weekend at the Idaho State Historical Museum. This is wonderful fun event for the entire family as there are re-enactors from several different periods of history and you can interact with them. The event is from 10 am to 5 pm and there is no charge. This is the 35th year for the event and this year will extend out into Julia Davis Park. The event is great for the entire family and is free.

Meridian Lions Rodeo Grounds

The Meridian Lions Rodeo is this weekend at the rodeo grounds off the corner of McDermott and Cherry lane. The rodeo will be both Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm with pre-rodeo action starting at 1 pm. The funds raised at the rodeo go to help with the Lions eye bank and eyesight programs. If you bring an old pair of unneeded glasses you can receive a free soft drink. The cost for the rodeo is $9 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under and seniors. Children 5 and under are free.

Nampa Civic Center

Oktoberfest will be celebrated this Friday night at the Nampa Civic Center. The event starts at 6 pm and will go until 10 pm and will be held in the Civic Center outdoor garden. There is a charge of $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under if you get your tickets in advance and you can do that by clicking here or by calling 468-5555. If you wait to get your tickets at the door it will be a dollar extra. The night will feature live music, dancing, and sing-a-longs. There will also be special entertainment for children.

West Valley Medical Center, Caldwell

A free prostate cancer screening will be held at West Valley Medical Center on Thursday September 25th from 7 pm to 9 pm. Men age 50 and over should be screened each year for what is a very treatable form of cancer if detected early. If there is a history of prostate cancer in your family you should start screening as early as age 40 and African/American men should start screenings at age 45. West Valley Medical Center is located in Caldwell off 10th avenue and Logan.

Assistance League of Boise

"Operation School Bell" is underway for the Assistance League of Boise, where they dress school age children in the Boise area who are in need of clothing for school. More than 700 children have already been give clothing, hats and coats for the school year. Several hundred more still need to be served. You can help through the thrift shop located on Glenwood just across from Memorial Stadium and the Fairgrounds. You can also make a donation to the organization at the thrift store.

Morrison Center, BSU

The Morrison Center is turning 25 and today at 3 pm this afternoon there will be a special dedication ceremony for the new Riverside Plaza. Everyone is invited to attend the event which will feature entertainment, cake, ice cream, and punch. There will also a special honor for former Boise State President Dr. John Keiser. If you would like to attend there is no charge and parking is free in the parking garage near the Morrison Center.

Ada County Juvenile Court Services

The Scales of Justice Bass Fishing tournament is coming next Sunday September 28 and will be held at C.J. Strike Reservoir. The tournament was created year ago by Judge John Vehlow who told a young offender that if he completed his probation he would take him bass fishing. The experiment worked and he realized that other bass fishermen would be excellent role models and thus the tournament was started. This year there are more than 50 youngsters involved and more boats and fishermen are needed if you would like to sign up or more information you can call 850-4395.

Boise Centre on the Grove

The Women's Fitness Celebration is this weekend but before that it the Women's show and it opens today at the Boise Centre on the Grove. The show is today and tomorrow from 10 am to 8 pm. There is no charge and it is open to everyone. This is a great time to pick up entry packets and if you have registered for the all women's event there is still time. Late signups can be done both days at the show. The show it self features a wide variety of vendors with samples, examples, and items for sale.

Nampa Civic Center

The last musical written by Richard Rogers is the current production for Music Theatre Idaho. "I remember Mama" is a warm, traditional, family oriented musical about a family with young children. This is a great show to introduce children to the theatre. If you call the box office between noon and 5 pm today (Wednesday) at 468-2385 you can get a family discount. Qwest Arena

The "Boise Feis by the River" is competitive Irish dancing and will be this Saturday at the Qwest Arena. The action starts at 8 am to about 5 pm and there is no charge to attend and watch the competition. Dance teams and solos are here from around the United States for this event with more than 400 competitors. You can come and go as you like and watch as long as you want.

Expo Idaho

The Celtic Festival and Highland Games will be held Saturday September 27 and will be held at Expo Idaho. The one day event will feature traditional food, music and games. There is a cost to attend it is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children. Seniors are 60 and over with children 16 and under those who are 5 and under are free. The action will start at about 9 am and wrap up about 6 pm.

Canyon Crest Event Center, Twin Falls

The annual Rim to Rim race is this Saturday in Twin Falls. The race is 7.5 miles from one side of the canyon to the other. There is still time to sign up for the race at 7:30 tomorrow morning at Bass Lake on the north side of the canyon at Blue Lakes Country Club. Tonight there is a dinner and auction at the Canyon Crest Events Center starting at 6:30 pm and you can get your tickets at the door for $25. All this benefits Habit for Humanity of the Magic Valley helping families get into simple decent affordable housing.

Boise Centre on the Grove

The International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) 53rd annual awards luncheon was held today at the Boise Centre on the Grove. The IFEA is the organization for events around the world. Annually the members submit their activities for consideration by a panel of judges and this banquet is where the honors are bestowed. This luncheon is just a part of the annual gathering where ideas are shared and organizers learn how to make their events better.

Zoo Boise

You have the opportunity to see the new Africa Exhibit behind the scenes before it opens. Tours are being offered from September 18-21 and will be done for 4 people at a cost of $100 for the group. Julia Davis Park

The annual summer event of September "Art in the Park" opened this morning and goes through the weekend. The festival of artistic creations is a fundraiser for the Boise Art Museum. There is no charge to attend but proceeds from sales help continue programs at the Museum. Artists are selected in advance to be a part of this special showing and there is something for everyone.

The combined federal employee's campaign kicks off today. This is the effort by federal employees to combine their resources and make the most impact with their charitable dollars. Last year the federal employees in southwest Idaho gave more than $500,000 and they are looking to increase that this year. Hillcrest Floral

This is "Good Neighbor Day" where you can get a dozen roses free to give away to others. Hillcrest Floral in the Hillcrest shopping center off Overland and Orchard is participating again in this nationwide event. The idea is you keep one rose for yourself and give the other 11 to 11 other people as a good will effort. This year they are asking you to bring a food donation for the Idaho Foodbank to receive your dozen roses. This is a first come basis until all the roses are gone or until closing time at 5:30 pm

The Centennial High School Football team needs to add a new weight room facility and some additional equipment. The 4th annual Roger Run is this weekend starting at West Park in the Nampa area. The invitational run everything from a race to a walk/run for everyone. The check in for the race starts at 7:30 on Saturday morning and raises money for scholarships for students interested in the medical profession.
