Idaho Ice World

It's time to "Break the Ice" it is the annual sign up for fall programs at Idaho Ice World. The programs are run through the Boise Parks and Recreation program and involved everything from hockey leagues to figure skating lessons. Grove

The United Way giving campaign will kick off today with a flapjack feed in the Grove. If you give a $5 donation today you can eat all the flapjacks you want. This is the beginning of the charitable giving where United Way will try to gather more than $6 million to help with the growing needs of our community. Garden City Library

The second annual "Fall for Books" Gala fundraiser will be held to benefit the Children's Library at the Garden City Library. The event will be held at a private residence on September 4th but you should get your tickets now. The tickets are $50 each or $100 per couple. You can call the front desk of the library at 472-2943 for more information or to reserve your tickets. The funds raised will go to help children's programs at the library.

Computers for Kids

If you have recently updated your home computer of even upgraded at the office you might not know what to do with the old equipment. You can donate it to Computers for Kids. The non-profit organization takes in old computers refurbishes them and gives to children who otherwise wouldn't have access to a computer at home. You don't have to worry about your personal information as the hard drives are wiped clean 7 times. Expo Idaho

Three days remain for the Western Idaho Fair as activities and events will wrap up on Sunday. Horse competition will continue through Sunday as well and today the action centered on halter competition and trail work. Tomorrow will feature English and Western competition will finish on Sunday. There will also be games and a costume contest. The Horse show ring is in the Northeast corner of the fairgrounds.

Boise State University

The Boise Noon Optimist Football Jamboree is tomorrow at Boise State University and in addition to the football action in the stadium there will be a Brunch for everyone. All the players and cheerleaders in uniform are free and everyone else will be $5 for a hamburger, chips and a drink. The brunch will start at 10 am and run until 3 pm. The brunch will be held by the old gym and just across from the Taco Bell Arena.

Expo Idaho

A new and very popular attraction at the Western Idaho Fair this year is the "Splash Dogs" competition. This is where anyone with a dog that retrieves can be involved. This has been so popular that they are nearly filled with the finals coming up on Sunday. There are different divisions for juniors, under 16 years of age, and for dogs under 16 inches high. Splash Dogs is an actual competition and there is an entry fee with prizes awarded to the best.

American Cancer Society

The Relay for Life in Emmett is this weekend. There is still time to sign up your teams. Teams should about 8-15 members, however, you can just attend the event to help encourage the teams involved in the 12 hour relay style event. The funds raised go to help further cancer research and support families and survivors of cancer. The event starts on Friday night at 6 pm and will be in the Emmett city park. Expo Idaho

You have a chance to win a playhouse all while helping the Wishing Star Foundation to grant wishes to children with life threatening medical conditions. Raffle tickets are being sold for just $5 each during the Western Idaho Fair. In addition if you would like to also buy a ticket to win a large carved bear or a doll house there are separate raffles for each for just one dollar per ticket. The drawings will be held on Sunday at 2pm at the fair although you don't have to be present to win.

Snake River Yamaha

The Ride for the Red is this Saturday and it will be starting and ending at Snake River Yamaha on Fairview in Meridian. The ride raised funds for the American Red Cross and the cost is $25 per motorcycle. Part of that registration will be a raffle ticket to win a new Yamaha Road Star. Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $15 each. The ride will feature a barbeque and live music and registration will start at 9am. All riders and all bikes are welcome.

Expo Idaho - Noon show

The first ever Los Mariachi's Salsa Bowl Contest was held today at the Western Idaho Fair. Competitors came to the Agriculture competitive area to produce the best bowl of Salsa. Money prizes were awarded to the top 4 entrants. One of the requirements was no meat products in the salsa and only one entry per contestant. The contest was judged by the owners of Los Mariachi's Restaurant. Top prize is $75. Plans are already underway for a similar event next year at the fair.

Expo Idaho

The Western Idaho Fair continues all this week, but today is an important day for the 4-H and FFA youngsters involved in the livestock division because it is the day for the market sale and auction. Tonight at 6:00 pm in the main animal barn there will be an auction open to everyone for the animals raised by the youngsters. This is how they make their money for the year for all their efforts and everyone can bid on the animals.

Expo Idaho

It's KTVB family day at the Western Idaho Fair. This is the alcohol free smoke free day designed for families. You can still buy the $20 wrist band which will allow admission and unlimited rides from 12 pm to 5 pm. Nearly all of the staff of KTVB will be on hand today at the booth by the animal specialties area. We'll also be broadcasting live from the fair for all of our news casts. This morning we featured the youngsters involved in the 4-H and FFA programs. The market sale for the animals is tomorrow evening at 6:30 pm and anyone can attend and purchase an animal. We'll see you at the fair.

Warhawk Air Museum, Nampa

Doolittle Raiders will be remembered this weekend at the Warhawk Museum in Nampa. Two of the famous B-25 aircraft will be on display just like the ones used to bomb Tokyo shortly after our nations entrance into World War II. Col. John Doolittle the son of Jimmy Doolittle will be giving a presentation along with his daughter Jonna Doolittle Hoppes who wrote the book about the famous raid. The hours to see the aircraft this weekend are 10 am to 4 pm Saturday and 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday. Rides will be offered in the B-25 aircraft for a sponsorship donation to the museum.

Genesis World Mission

5 different bike rides will be held this weekend to help Genesis World Mission. 4 rides will be held on Sunday August 17th of different lengths. The rides are 3 miles, 15 miles, 31.5 miles and 62 miles depending on your abilities and time. The last ride will be 5 days starting on Monday August 18th and will be 350 miles. The money raised will go to help Genesis World Mission which helps heal people around the corner and around the world. Deer Flat Refuge Center

BioBlitz 2008 is this Saturday at the Deer flat Refuge Center near Lake Lowell. BioBlitz is an opportunity for families to learn about every type of biological creatures native to south Idaho. There will be field collection demonstrations and all you have to do is call to be a part and the number is 467-9278. There is no charge and most of the activities will be from 10 am to 3 pm but call ahead to be a part of the collection demonstrations.

Nampa Civic Center

"Oklahoma" is the latest production for Music Theatre Idaho and it will open this weekend. The show will run for only 2 weekends and there are still seats available for all shows. This is a well know family type production that everyone will love. Nampa Civic Center

Community Fun Night is this Wednesday at the Nampa Civic Center. The free event features performances from several local groups with High Street the headliner. The action starts at 6 pm and will feature entertainment on several stages at the same time all evening long. There will also be free pony rides, climbing and jousting just to mention a few. Bring the entire family.

Tablerock

The Climb to Conquer Cancer is tomorrow, Saturday August 9th at Tablerock. The event is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and is open to everyone. The climb is $35 per person and teams are encouraged to participate. It's not too late to be a part; all you have to do is show up at the bottom of Tablerock by the old penitentiary tomorrow morning for the registration at 7 am with the walk starting at 8 am. Firebird Raceway

The Nightfire Nationals are underway at Firebird Raceway. This year's racing action features the most nitro fueled Funny Cars in the history of the Nightfire's. There will be qualifying for the finals starting today with the first round of action at 12 noon. The professionals qualify at 6:30 with nearly 500 racers from around the region and Canada. The Nightfire's will wrap up on Sunday with finals starting at 2 pm. You can click here for more information and ticket prices.

Warm Springs Golf Course

The first annual Light my Fire golf tournament was held today at the Warm Springs and raises funds for the burn out fund and safe houses for both the Meridian Fire Department and the Boise Fire Department. The burn out fund helps families on a short term basis who have been displaced because of a home fire and the safe house is used for education of children for fire safety.

Boise City Hall

A bone marrow donor drive will be held this Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm in the plaza at Boise City Hall. This is a free registry, it's simple and painless. It only requires a quick swab inside your cheek. Bone marrow donors are needed to help improve the survival rate for cancer patients. If you can't make it on Saturday or you want more information you can click here. This registration is free but in the future there will be a charge for the kit necessary to be on the national registry.

Blue Cross of Idaho

The Blue Cruise is this Sunday August 10th. The ride starts at Blue Cross of Idaho and this year will raise funds for the Idaho Youth Ranch. This is a non-competitive ride designed for every one of all ages and abilities. There are four different ride lengths of 100 miles, 50 miles, 30 miles or 15 miles. You can sign up at the last minute or you can click here to register on line. A gourmet picnic will follow the ride back at Blue Cross of Idaho.

St. Alphonsus

The St. Alphonsus Medical Support team and St. Alphonsus Credit Union are combining efforts to help some youngsters in their back to school efforts. Through donations the group is providing backpacks and supplies for children at Koelsch Elementary in Boise and Snake River Elementary in Nampa. The students qualify through their schools. More help is needed and if you would like to make a donation you can just drive through the Valet parking area at the hospital and an attendant will take your donation for you.

Eagle Public Library

The Race 2 Read Book Club is a program for young readers age 9 and up who get together with an adult reading partner and read books together. There are several themes and there are plans to have experts from the community come together with the readers to share information and experiences. If you would like to join there is no charge all you need to do is call the Eagle Public Library at 939-6814, extension 7. The first meeting is September 9th.

Kuna High School

The Peacemakers Quilt show is this weekend at Kuna High School. This annual show and sale is one of the premiere shows in the area and will run both days. There is a $4 charge to attend the show and the proceeds will benefit community organizations in Kuna. The fire department is one of the major recipients and they have been able to purchase special training equipment. In addition there is a wood working show as well with continuous demonstrations.
