Downtown Nampa

It’s time to “Trick or Treat in downtown streets” in Nampa. The members of the Downtown Nampa Association are again handing out candy to all children this afternoon. Ten blocks of the downtown Nampa area will be controlled by crossing guards from 3 pm to 5 pm and children in costume can safely go from merchant to merchant to collect their Halloween treats.

St. Luke's Women's Life

Children will be in the streets today for Halloween trick or treating and we all need to be cautious and watch out for them. Costumes should be bright and colorful with reflective tape or clip-on. Children should also have a flashlight and only go to the homes where the lights are on and porch lights are lit. Adults should supervise children and make sure they are careful when the cross the streets.

Nampa Civic Center

“She Loves Me” is the latest musical production by Music Theatre Idaho. The show was written by the same people who wrote “Fiddler on the Roof”. The production will open this weekend with shows on Thursday, Friday, two shows on Saturday. The matinee on Saturday is at 1:30. You can get your tickets by calling the box office at 468-2385 and if you call today and mention you show the news this morning you will get a 20% discount. The winter sports season is nearly on us and its time to condition. Intermountain Orthopaedics is offering a clinic starting tomorrow and running for 4 weeks through November 20th. This is a small cost for the 4 – 1 hour sessions which will be on Tuesdays from 6 pm to 7 pm. You need to call ahead to sign up at 489-4331. The clinic will offer the winter sports enthusiast work on core stabilization to strength development to nutrition facts.

Starlight Mountain Theatre

Starlight Mountain Theatre will perform “Grease” in two locations. The show will open at Capital High School November 9th and 10th and then will finish at the Nampa Civic Center November 16th and 17th. Idaho Horse Park - Nampa

The 33rd annual Snaffle Bit Futurity continues at the Idaho Horse Park in Nampa. The competition attracts riders from all over the nation and Canada. Today’s action is mostly show competition with the finals set for tomorrow. The futurity is a true test of rider and horse in several athletic events that highlight the best of best in herd work and cutting. Action starts today at 10 am and tomorrow at 10 am. The Idaho Horse Park is located next to Idaho Center off Can-Ada road.

Evergreen Heights Mennonite Church

Tomorrow will mark a special day for families in the Caldwell area. It’s a safe and happy kid’s day at Evergreen Heights Mennonite Church. The event is from 1 pm to 5 pm and designed for families and is free. Activities will include pumpkin decorating, pony rides, cake walk and lots of other arts and crafts. The church is located up the hill from the Mavrick store on 10th Avenue North and then North on Indiana.

Notus Elementary School

Red Ribbon week continues and today we were in Notus at Notus Elementary School where students joined with their parents and teachers and the students from the High School in a symbolic walk. The idea is to encourage all children to walk away from drugs. The entire community was invited today to participate and there was a large turnout of the parents who joined their children.

Zoo Boise

It’s time for “Boo at the Zoo”. The annual event is this Saturday at Zoo Boise with special activities and prizes for children of all ages. More than one ton of candy will be given out to those who attend during regular hours. The day will feature costume contests, pumpkin patch photos and a bat toss. Idaho Horse Park

The 33rd annual Idaho Snaffle Bit Futurity kicked off last night at the Idaho Horse Park in Nampa. There’s no charge to attend today or tomorrow at the facility next to the Idaho Center. The final three days there is a charge and Sunday is the finals starting at 10:00 am. This event features the top horses and riders from all over the nation and Canada.

Morrison Center

Idaho Dance Theatre has a new production ready to go. “Under Construction” will feature 4 exciting new works corigraphed by members of the company. There are four chances to see the show set for the Special Events Center at Boise State starting November 1st. Sacred Heart School

This is Red Ribbon Week and today we joined the students of Sacred Heart School as they participate in the special week. Students were decorating the gym in anticipation of activities later this week. Drug dogs will be doing demonstrations and visitors will remind the children about the importance of staying drug and alcohol free to be able to have a full and complete life.

Boise Public Library

The fall book sale is this weekend at the Boise Public Library. The Library has two sales per year where surplus and donated books, C-D’s, and videos are sold at discounted prices. There’s no charge to attend the sale which opens Friday at 9 am and runs through Sunday at 4 pm. Everything left is half price on Sunday. All funds raised benefit the Boise Public Library and the branch libraries.

Star Fire Department

The Star Volunteer Fire Department held their Pheasant breakfast this morning. The event started 29 years ago as a send off for hunters to start their pheasant hunting season and raise funds for the department. The funds raised this year will go to pediatric care in the Star community and any extra funds will be used for the burn-out fund and for equipment for the volunteer department.

Bishop Kelly High School

The annual Bishop Kelly dinner and auction is coming on November 3rd and will be at the Boise Centre on the Grove. This year the highlight of the auction will be a brand new car that will be given away to one of the 300 guests. The only way to get a ticket for the car is to attend the dinner. O'Connor Fieldhouse, Caldwell

One day Senior Health Fair is being held today at the O’Connor Fieldhouse in the Caldwell area. More than 70 vendors involved in health care will be on hand. Services range from Hospice care to flu shots and those shots will be available today. The fair runs from 8 am to 2 pm and there is no charge to attend. Everyone is welcome but issues will concern healthcare for seniors.

Boise Little Theatre

“The Desperate Hours” by Joseph Hayes is the latest production for Boise Little Theatre. The drama is based on a real life hostage situation that took place in the 50’s. The show is tense with lots of drama and a strong cast of actors. The show opens this weekend and will run through November 3rd. YMCA Homecourt

A new camp is planned by the Treasure Valley YMCA and it will be located at Horsethief Reservoir, near Cascade. The camp will start as a summer only camp but eventually will be a year round facility. The capitol campaign has begun to raise 22 million dollars. There are currently more than 200 volunteers working to make this vision a reality. “Cookies and Dreams” is the annual fundraiser for the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council. The Landing Community Center

The Landing Community Center has just opened a new after school program for children in and round the Eagle area. The organization is a private non-profit group looking to help with children who find themselves with little structure after school and their parents are still at work. Idaho Horse Park

The Idaho Cowboys Association Finals Rodeo is this weekend at the Idaho Horse Park in the Nampa area. This is the culmination of all the ICA rodeos throughout the year. The top cowboys and cowgirls from Idaho, Oregon and Washington will be competing for top honors. The rodeo action is Friday and Saturday night at 6:30 pm with pre rodeo action starting at 5:30 pm. Tickets will be available at the door for $12 and children age 6-12 are $5 and 5 and under are free.

ISU Heath Education Building

The Idaho State University, Boise Health Professions Experience is tonight at the ISU Health Education Building in Meridian. The location is the old Jabil facility and the event is open to High School students and their families who are interested in the Health Care Profession. The open house will feature information about the 21 programs and offer demonstrations in the various fields including Emergency Wilderness Medical Training. American Red Cross

The American Red Cross needs 230 donors statewide each day in Idaho. Those donations come from mobile blood drives, special collections and from those who just volunteer to come into to a collection site. The need continues throughout the year and if you would like to give you are asked to call 1-800-Give-Life (1-800-448-3543). Volunteers are also need for many other activities and you can all the same number to help.

Meridian Fire

This is the first day of Fire Prevention Week. This is a time to make sure you not only have an escape plan in case of a fire in your home but actually practice that plan. You should have 2 ways to get out of every room and don’t forget to have a rendezvous point outside. You should also make sure your smoke detectors are working by checking them once a month and chance the batteries in them twice a year.

Square and Round Dance Center

“Mad Hot for Ballroom” is tonight at the Square and Round Dance Center south of town. This is a dinner dance show performance featuring FJ and Catherine Abaya from Seattle. They are a professional competitive dance couple who perform nationally. If you would like to attend you can get tickets at the door for $40 each and $25 for students. Oregon Trail Church of God

The 25th annual barbeque for the Oregon Trail Church of God will be tomorrow at the church located at the Middleton exit from Interstate 84. The barbeque will start at 4:30 with the auction starting at 6 pm. Many items will be up for live auction with handmade quilts are a major feature. The funds raised will be used to continue the remodel efforts for the church. The cost for the barbeque is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children.

The Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus opens tonight at the Idaho Center in Nampa. The Greatest Show on Earth features some of the most exciting and amazing acts. Caldwell Senior Center

The 27th annual “Hello Dolly” doll show will be this Saturday at the Caldwell Senior Center 10am to 4pm. The show is designed for collectors and enthusiasts of all types of dolls. The cost for the show is just $2 and children under 12 are free. The proceeds of the show will go to several local charities in the Caldwell area. Most of he dolls are for display but some are for sale and there are some silent auction dolls and some will be given away for door prizes.

Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho

Sharon’s Ride, Run, Walk is coming October 13th and it will benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Idaho. This is a first time event here but has been held nationally for years. You can ride, or run, or walk. The bike ride is an 18k bicycle ride on the green belt and will start and end in Barber Park. The walk and run are the same length at 5k. Julia Davis Park

“See Spot Walk” is the annual fundraising event where about 3,000 dogs and their owners raise funds for the Humane Society. If you would like to participate you can still sign up at any of the ZamZows locations or at the Humane Society. Last minute registration will still be available on Saturday morning, the day of the event. Things will kick off Saturday morning at 10 am with the walk starting at 11 am.
