Northwest Children's Home Syringa House

Northwest Children’s Home is ready to open its new Syringa House in the Nampa area. The home treats girls ages 11-18 who have been sexually abused and often have problems with drug and alcohol abuse. An open house will be held on August 25 and 26 from 4 pm to 7 pm. The new facility is about 4 times the size of the old home and they have raised enough to open the treatment location but need more funds to pay the debt. 20th Century Lanes

The Veterans Administration Golden Age Games are coming up August 27-31 in Houston, Texas. The Idaho team, the Spudinators will be attending again representing Veterans from all branches of the military. Funds are still being raised to help send the 17 team members and you can help by calling 422-1228. The Spudinators compete in Bowling, Shuffle Board and Horseshoes and a few other events.

Canyon County Fair

Day two for the Canyon County Fair and gates will open at 11:00 am. Today will be a big competition day for the youngsters involved in 4-H and FFA. The market sale will be held on Monday and it’s open to everyone to bid. Blake Shelton will perform tonight at 8:00 pm and there only a few reserve tickets left. You can also see the show by just attending the fair. Adults are $4 and children 6-12 and seniors are $3 children under 5 are free. The fair wraps up Sunday night 11 pm. Merrill Park, Eagle

The Byrds junior stage race will be held tonight at 7:00 around Eagle’s Merrill Park. The Byrds is a young riding development organization and the event tonight is open to everyone to watch with no charge. This is the first of a series events this weekend and will cap off with a criterium race on Sunday that will also feature a race for children. For more information click on the link below.

Free screenings are being offered at the Boise and Meridian facilities on various days and times depending on what ails you. You can call 489-4040 to find out which time and location suits you. Twin Falls Municipal Golf Course

The second annual “Tee up for Safe Kids” Golf Ball Drop is being held today at the Twin Falls Municipal Golf Course. The event raises funds for the Safe Kids of the Magic Valley program which helps to prevent unintentional injuries, a leading cause of death in children. The golf balls are purchased for $10 each and then dropped from a helicopter and the winner is determined by one that drops in the hole or closest to it.

Albertson College

Sixth grade students from Ontario, Oregon are staying at Albertson College for the next two weeks for a special training program. The students are selected by their teachers from the middle school and apply to attend this program that teaches leadership and team building skills. The group begins each day with exercise and team building activates at 5:30 am.

Nampa Civic Center

There are two shows for Music Theatre Idaho at the Nampa Civic Center being done by the same cast. “Pump Boys and Dinettes” is the first musical and the second is “Tom Foolery”. The shows run for one more weekend with an alternating schedule. Pump Boys will run on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon and Tom Foolery on Friday and Saturday night. Oregon Coast

I am taking a few days off to spend with my family at the Oregon Coast. My wife and I are spending time with her parents and two of our three boys. One had to stay back home to work and keep in eye on the house, the fish and bird. The boys are learning the fine art of crabbing from their Grandfather while Julie and I enjoy the rest and relaxation.

Ridgecrest Golf

“Snake River Dayz” continues in the Nampa area with the Golf for Hope at the Ridgecrest Golf Club. The fundraising event will benefit the Hope House and they are hoping to raise more money than ever before. Many events are still to come for Snake River Dayz with the Snake River Stampede Rodeo all next week at the Idaho Center. The all horse parade will be at 11am tomorrow in the downtown Nampa.

Nampa Civic Center

It’s Snake River Dayz in the Nampa area. The 10 days of celebration is centered around the Snake River Stampede which will run next week from Tuesday through Saturday at the Idaho Center. The action begins tonight with the Nampa Kiwanis Steak Fry in Lake View Park. Friday and Saturday night will feature free concerts at the Civic Center and a family movie night on Saturday with the “Wizard of Oz” and costumes are encouraged. The all American breakfast will be Saturday morning and the all horse parade is Saturday afternoon.

Roaring Springs

The annual Dolphin Drop is coming back again to Roaring Springs. The fundraising event benefits the Boys and Girls club of Ada County and you can help by adopting a dolphin. All the floating dolphins will be dropped into the endless river on August 12th at noon and the first to cross the finish line will win a season pass for 4 at Roaring Springs. The dolphins can be adopted starting today up to August 12th for $5 each. You can also call 407-1941 to adopt and get more information.

Stagecoach Theatre

A double production is the latest performance for Stagecoach Theatre. “Love Letters” and “Fool for Love” are the shows and the common themes are people who are madly in love with each other but probably shouldn’t be. The shows open this Friday July 13th and will run for the next three weeks with shows each Friday and Saturday and two Thursdays with one Sunday matinee on the July 22 at 2:00. Roaring Springs

It’s Christmas in July at Roaring Springs. The water park is teaming up with KTSY Radio to grant wishes to families that need a little help. Special cards are being sold as you enter for $1 each and are only available through the end of the week or you can make a donation at any Key Bank location. KTSY and Trinity Mortgage grant wishes at Christmas time but realize there are other needs at this time of the year. If you would like to nominate a family in need, you can call 453-8080 you just can’t nominate yourself.

Jon and Chris are back. The well known talk team returned to the AM airwaves this morning on KFXD AM 63. The team has been off the Treasure Valley radio airwaves for just over a year following their departure last April from sister station KIDO. Jon Duane and Chris Kelly will be doing a 4 hour talk show Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 10:00 am featuring the top local issues of the day.

Expo Idaho Fairgrounds

Northwest Motor fest starts tomorrow. It’s one of the largest motor sports events in the Pacific Northwest. It’s all part of our special 7-7-7 celebration to raise money and grant 7 wishes for 7 children through Make-a-Wish of Idaho. The lucky 7 dash is set for tomorrow morning and you can still sign up. Nampa Civic Center

Harmony Corral will have a vocal showcase for 2 days at the Nampa Civic Center. Friday there will be competition all day starting at 8:30 in the morning and going into the evening. Saturday the advanced performers will have a variety show at 7:00 pm. Tickets will be available at the door and with be an all day ticket. The cost is $7 for adults and $6 for seniors and children. On Saturday $1 of each ticket sold will go to the 7-7-7 celebration for granting wishes to children with life threatening medical conditions through Make-a-Wish of Idaho. Julia Davis Park

It’s the 4th of July and that means its time for the annual Gem State Kiwanis pancake breakfast. The breakfast will run from 7 am to 11:30 am and the cost is $5 for adults and $4 for children and seniors. The funds raised go to the Gem State Kiwanis Club as their biggest fundraiser of the year and in turn the club gives back to the community through its commitment to youth and youth programs.

Goodwill, Meridian

Easter Seals/Goodwill has opened a new store in the Meridian area. The store helps with the effort of Easter Seals to meet the needs of person’s with disabilities. The store provides jobs and training and proceeds from the sale of donated items helps all other programs. The store is located on Fairview right across from the Idaho Athletic Center and accepts donations daily and is open 7 days a week from 9 am to 9 pm with Sunday hours 9 am to 6 pm.

Idaho Transportation Department

The M-S Bike Tour is coming up September 15-16, but now is the time to begin training for the event. There are actually distances of 50, 75, and 100 mile distances on each of the two days. Registration for the ride is $30 per person or $20 for individual members. However each rider is encouraged to raise $200 in pledges to benefit Multiple Sclerosis.
