Doubletree Riverside

The 12th annual “Light my Fire” dinner and auction will be held Friday February 9th at the Doubletree Riverside. The event raises funds for the Fire Safe House for the Boise and Meridian Fire Departments. In addition funds will also be given to the Burnout Fund for each department. The event is already sold out but if you would like you can send donations to the All Industry Celebration at P.O. Box 9034, Boise, Idaho 83707.

Doubletree Riverside

The 11th annual Children’s Home Society of Idaho Gala will be held at the Doubletree Riverside Saturday February 24th. The event will benefit the Children’s Home and Warm Springs Counseling Center. Tickets are still available for the black tie optional event where costumes are encouraged with a theme of “All that Jazz”. The cost $150 per person and can be purchased by calling 343-7813.

Doubletree Riverside

You can attend a Super Bowl party and help Ducks Unlimited at the same time. This Sunday at the Doubletree Riverside you can see the big game on one of 3, 12 foot televisions and several other big screens. It’s an all you can eat event with auctions and raffles done by the girls from Hooters restaurant to benefit the conservation group. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 463-9900 or on line. The cost for tickets is $30 if purchased today and $35 after today.

McCall Winter Carnival

The McCall Winter Carnival kicked off last night with special activities all weekend long. The parade will step off today at 12:00 noon with our own Dee Sarton as the Grand Marshall. The McCall Fire Department is conducting a special fundraising Polar Plunge at 2:00 and I’m helping to raise money for their special needs. In addition a special Masquerade Ball next Saturday night at the Whitetail Resort will raise funds WAAF which stands for We Acknowledge All faiths. Boise Centre on the Grove

The Lunch for Literacy is next Friday at the Boise Centre on the Grove. The annual event raises money for the Learning Lab and its literacy education programs. Tickets are still available for $45 each by calling the Learning Lab at 344-1335 extension 101. The luncheon features a talk by guest author and Boise native Maria Dahvana Headley who wrote the critically acclaimed “The Year of Yes.” In addition books signed by the authors will be up for silent auction.

Cathedral of the Rockies

The Cathedral of the Rockies will be hosting their annual Antique show and sale this weekend. The show opens Friday evening at 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a special reception including homemade soup and pie. The show will through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The cost to attend is $3.50 for adults, $3.00 for seniors and children under 12 are free. The funds raised from the event will go to help the United Methodist women for their ministry efforts in the community and world wide.

Nampa Civic Center

“Forever Plaid” is the latest production for Music Theatre Idaho and will open on the weekend of February 9th and 10th. The Show which is set in February of 1964 is about a quartet of singers on their way to their first big show when they are struck by a bus load of Catholic school girls on their way to see the Beatles and die instantly. They get a chance to come back years later to have their big chance. Call the box office to get your tickets 468-2385 or you can purchase them on line. The show runs for 2 weeks with a special show being added on Wednesday February 14th for Valentines Day.

Nampa Civic Center

The St. Paul’s School Dinner and Auction will be this weekend at the Nampa Civic Center. The event is nearly a sellout but they are selling raffle tickets for a trip for 4 to Disneyland. The trip includes airfare, hotel, and Parkhopper passes for 4 nights and 3 days. The tickets are available by calling the school 467-3601 and are $50 each. There are 3 other raffles also available for everyone.

Boas Tennis Center

The Boise State Men’s tennis team will be hosting the 2007 ITA Mountain Region Team Indoor tournament this weekend. Boise State is the top seeded team of the top 4 teams in the region and will be playing for an opportunity to go on to the National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago in mid February. Matches will be held tomorrow starting at 9:30 am and finishing with the Championship round at 6:30 pm. There’s no charge to come and watch. All the matches will be played at the Boas Tennis Center off Highland.

BSU Special Events Center

“Pure Passion” is the latest show for Idaho Dance Theatre and will open next Thursday January 25th at the Special Events Center at Boise State University. There are only 4 shows, 3 in the evening at 8:00 pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and a matinee on Sunday at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available in advance by contacting Select-a-seat or you can get them at the door.

Idaho Statehouse

It’s Buy Idaho day at the Idaho Statehouse. You can see a sampling of the many products and services available in Idaho. The event is in the rotunda and will be on three floors and there’s no cost to attend. If you do go the show is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and there will be lots of sampling and learn about all the various products and services from Idaho businesses.

Alano Club

“The Lone Stranger” is the latest production for Prairie Dog Productions. It’s a musical, comedy, parody farce based loosely on the old Lone Ranger series. The show designed for the entire family will open this weekend and will run every weekend until February 17th. Boise State

The gymnastics season has begun for Boise State with their first meet last weekend in Reno where the Broncos lost by only 2/10ths of a point. The next meet is this Friday January 19th at 7:00 pm at Taco Bell Arena. The cost is $5.00 for adults and the night is a “pink out” which is an awareness campaign for Breast Cancer and St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center is the sponsor. The gymnasts will be wearing their pink leotards.

Gold's Gym

Dance4Life is a program to raise funds for HIV/Aids awareness and research. The new Gold’s Gym will host the event on January 27th. A suggested $5 donation will be collected at the door and the event will feature a wide variety of silent auction items will be up for bid and the gym will feature all of its new programs. Life's Kitchen

Life’s Kitchen is a special program that not only teaches culinary skills to students but also life skills. The students who attend Life’s Kitchen are considered “at risk” for a variety of reasons like poverty, aging out of foster care or a young single parent. Once they graduate they are prepared to find employment and be able to truly care for themselves and those close to them. A new class will begin on February 12th and this class will graduate on February 23rd but many students get job offers before graduation. Idaho Urologic Institute

Idaho ranks low nationwide for prostate cancer screening. In an effort to help correct these number St. Alphonsus and the Idaho Urologic Institute is offering a free screening today from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. All men age 50 and over should receive annual screening or if you have a history in your family then the screening should start at age 40 or if you are African American. American Red Cross

For the first time ever you can now make a donation to the American Red Cross on your Idaho income tax return. Individuals can donate $10 or $20 if you file a joint return. The legislature passed the measure last year it went into effect on this year’s return. In addition the Red Cross reminds us all that if disaster were to strike we should all be prepared to take care of our selves and our families for up to 72 hours without outside help.

Capital High

The Northwest premiere of Disney’s High School Musical will be this weekend at Capital High School with additional shows at the Nampa Civic Center next weekend. The show opens at Capital with shows on the 12th and 13th at 8:00 with a matinee at 2:00 on the 13th. The following weekend the show moves to the Nampa Civic center with the same show times. Rocky Mountain Fitness

If you are looking for a way to help you accomplish that New Year’s resolution, the Eagle Run and Walk group has the answer. It’s an 8-week program starting in January called the “Run you Rolls off”. The sign-up is January 16, 2007 at Rocky Mountain Fitness in Eagle and will cost $25. You don’t have to be a member of the club but you’ll be able to use the facility and receive expert advice from trainers along with the support of other participants. Stagecoach Theatre

“There’s a Burglar in my Bed”, is the latest production for Stagecoach Theatre. The American comedy face is a classic tale of greed and deception. There are lots of laughs but because of content it is better suited to a mature audience its rated “R”. The show will open this Friday and run for 4 weeks in the month of January. You can get tickets by calling the box office ahead of time at 342-2000. The Stagecoach Theatre is located in the Hillcrest shopping center in the covered portion of the mall just off Overland and Orchard.
