June 2009 ArchivesHigh Desert Harley DavidsonThe High Desert Motorcycle Rally is this weekend at the Malheur County Fairgrounds in Ontario, Oregon. This is a three day event starting on Friday and ending on Sunday. Activities on Friday and Sunday are free with just a $5 charge for all day Saturday. The Pat Traver's Band will be performing on Saturday and Chica of Chica Custom Cycles will be on hand. Everyone is welcome to attend this family friendly event with proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Treasure Valley and the American Cancer Society Relay for Live. Veterans Administration HospitalAll Veterans are being welcomed home tomorrow, Saturday June 27th at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Everyone is welcome to come and thank the veterans starting at 11 am and going until 2 pm. The event will be held on the grassy area in front of the hospital located at 500 West Fort Street. The day will feature a barbeque, raffle prizes, music and fun for all.

Les Schwab, FairviewA free screening for Prostate Cancer will be held today for men from 9 am to 7 pm at Les Schwab Tire on Fairview in Boise. The mobile unit will move to downtown Boise tomorrow and those times are 9 am to 5 pm. The "Main Street Mile" is a fun run and race tomorrow evening in downtown Boise. Blue Cross of IdahoThe 7th annual Blue Cruise of Idaho is this Saturday June 27th and will start and end at Blue Cross of Idaho. There are several different rides of various lengths and this year there is also a community wellness fair and bike rodeo for children. Olympic Gold Medalist Kristin Armstrong will be participating in the ride and the first 100 children can get a free bike helmet signed by Kristin. Jewish SynagogueIt's time again for "Deli Days". This is the main fundraiser for the Jewish Synagogue and it will be Thursday and Friday of this week. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy specially prepared food from 11 am to 8 pm on Thursday and 11 am to 7 pm on Friday. In addition to great food there will be non-stop entertainment and if you can't make it over, delivery is available by calling 343-6601 but there is a delivery fee.

Red Lion DowntownerA seminar will start tomorrow for employers to encourage them to hire refugees. The refugee seminar will help answer questions for those who would like more information and help to hire those who have come here looking for jobs. The seminar is one day only, it starts at 8:00 am and will end by 10:30 and there is no charge. You don't need to sign up ahead of time just show up tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Red Lion Downtowner.

High Desert Harley DavidsonThe annual HOG Motorcycle Rodeo is coming up next weekend. HOG is the Harley Owners Group and this rodeo is open to any type of street motorcycle. The event is at the fairgrounds in Emmett and everyone is welcome to attend. The cost is $7 per person at the gate or you can get your tickets for $5 in advance by coming to High Desert Harley Davidson in the Meridian area. The entry fee for the rodeo is $5 per event or $25 to enter all 9 events.

Canyon West Health and RehabThe "Run for the Silver" is coming on June 27th at Canyon West Health and Rehab in the Caldwell area. This is a fun run raising money for the "Meals on Wheels" and Seniors Centers programs in Canyon and Owyhee Counties. The cost for the fun run is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for youth. The distance is 5k and this is a walk and run. If you would like more information or want to sign up you can call 459-0808 and for Sue or Tamara.

The classic musical will run for two weekends only and is perfect for the entire family. Meridian Dairy AssociationThe Idaho Brethren Disaster Ministries will be holding an auction to raise funds to help send church members around the world to help with disaster relief. The auction is tomorrow (Saturday June 13th) and will start at 8 am with breakfast, followed by a free Gospel concert and the auction will begin at 10 am. Everything takes place at the Meridian Dairy Association right next to the speedway.

College of Idaho, CaldwellThe Scottish Highland Games will be this weekend at the College of Idaho. The games will open at about 8 am and this is all free to the public. You can click here for a complete schedule of activities. If you would just like to watch or even like to participate you are welcome and there is no charge to be a part. There are 9 different disciplines for the games and the Scottish American Athletic Association will be demonstrating each one.

Morrison CenterTwenty two contestants will vie for the title of Miss Idaho 2009 over the next few days at the Morrison Center. The scholarship pageant is a two day event starting on Friday at 7 pm and then wraps up on Saturday night at 7 pm. Tickets will be available at the door but if you would like to get your tickets in advance you can contact select-a-seat. The cost is $20 per person on Friday and $25 on Saturday night.

Southwest BoiseThe 2009 Garden Tour is this Sunday June 14th and is a fundraiser for the Idaho Botanical Garden. There are 7 stops on the tour this year and the cost is $15 and you can go to any of the stops to start your tour. If you click here you can download the map and then pay at the first stop. This is a rain or shine event and starts 10 am and wraps up at 5 pm. Brochures are available at all the major garden centers and the Idaho Botanical Garden.

Parma High School"Old Fort Boise Days" starts today in Parma which is one of the original locations of the three Fort Boise's. The activities start with the queen pageant tonight at 7 pm at Parma High School. Everything resumes again on Wednesday and runs through the end of the carnival on Sunday. Military History MuseumTomorrow, June 6th is the 65th anniversary of D-Day and it will be recognized in a big way at the Military History Museum. Gates will open at 10 am and activities will continue through 4 pm. There will be static displays, information and re-enactors will stage mock battles between the Allied and Axis Powers of WWII. This event is open to everyone and there is no charge. The Military History Museum is just south of the airport off Gowen road, just look for the large brown signs as you driver south around the airport.

Knitting FactoryThe Idaho Salsa Congress is coming to the Knitting Factory in downtown Boise on Saturday June 13th. There are three events involved with workshops, a family event and an evening event. Special Salsa performances will also highlight the day's activities. The Workshop is $10 per person, the family event is $2 per person and the evening event is $18 per person and you must be 18 years or older. You can call 794-8753 for more information.

Julia Davis ParkThe 19th annual "Art and Roses" art show and sale will be this Sunday at the Rose Garden in Julia Davis Park. This is all original art work done by local artists with a portion of the proceeds going to the park and the rose garden. The times are 10 am to 6 pm on Sunday and there is no charge to attend. Food and entertainment will also be available.

Boise State University, Student Union BuildingThe 30th annual exhibition of the Idaho Water Color Society is on display at Boise State University in the Student Union Building, upstairs. This exhibition is free to everyone. This started out as 180 pieces and has been narrowed down to 60 with the top 20 being chosen today and they will go on tour around the state. This display will be here until June 25th and there will be a special opening this Friday night June 5th from 7:30 - 9 pm and that is also free to everyone.

St. Constantine and HelenThe Greek Food Festival is coming this weekend June 5th and 6th and will be 11 am to 9 pm each day. There are some special changes this year with new menu items and a new pastry house. Food tickets are $1 donations to the church and you buy as many as you like as food items vary for the number of tickets. Everyone is welcome to attend and the church is located on the corner of 27th and Bannock.
