Eagle Island State Park

Civil War soldiers have set up camp at Eagle Island State Park and will be helping 5th grade students to learn more about what happened during the war that pitted brother against brother. The students will come out today and tomorrow and then on Saturday everyone is welcome. There is a standard fee to enter the park but there is no charge to see the re-enactors. The Lions club is sponsoring the event and will be on hand to collect used eyeglasses that will be recycled.

Washington Group Plaza

Temperatures will be warming and more motorcycles will be on the road again. This Saturday will mark the beginning of motorcycle awareness. The awareness ride will start at Sandy Point out at Lucky Peak at 1 pm and finishing at the WGI Plaza lot with a rally. There is no charge to participate and all motorcycle rides are welcome. The registration will start at 11 am at Sandy Point.

High Desert Harley Davidson

Hot rods and Hogs have gone to the dogs, is the car and motorcycle show that will raise funds for the Meridian Valley Humane Society. The show is open to everyone to see the cars and cycles on May 9th from 10 am to 3 pm. If you would like to enter your car or motorcycle the cost is $10 for a car and $5 for a motorcycle. Sign-ups will start that morning before the event. All the proceeds go to the Meridian shelter.

Discovery Center of Idaho

Phenomenal Forces are still on display at the Discovery Center of Idaho. The exhibit will continue through June 7th and demonstrate surprising forces and brings invisible forces to life. The next exhibit will be good vibrations and will open June 12th and run through the summer season. The Discovery Center is open Tuesday through Sunday until summer when it will be open everyday. This the weekend for "Children are our Flowers" to raise funds for after school programs through Lutheran Community Services. Children like flowers need care and love to grow and this program offers children that chance through planned programs and activities after school hours. You can help by going to any of the participating nurseries and buying products starting today and going through Sunday. The participating businesses are Cloverdale Nursery, D.G. Nursery, Edwards Greenhouse, Far West Landscape, Florists at Edwards, Franz Witte Landscape, Gem Butte Greenhouse, Horseshoe Nursery, House of Flowers, Summer Lawn, and Stephen's Nursery. World Winter Games Headquarters

The Special Olympics World Winter Games received their licensing donation as PromoShop Inc game nearly $50,000 to keep the fundraising effort in the black. The 2009 games were also considered the greenest of all times because of the use of recycled materials for promotional items and goods for the games. The overall success is being credited to the community effort of everyone who had a part in helping.

Home Depot

Arbor Day is this Friday and there will be several events to celebrate. The Home Depot stores will be giving out seedlings to plant at home with the help of the Idaho Forest Products Commission. A special event will be held at Capitol Park in Boise at 10:00 am with a planting and a reminder about how we can help to reforest and recycle. You can click here if you would like more information.

Volunteers are needed for this year's "Paint the Town" effort. This is the annual time we can help seniors who need some paint and repairs to their homes. This program has been going on for 26 years and many of the homes have come back around in the system and the need is greater this year than ever before. You don't need to be an expert or even have much experience. All you need is a desire to help. You can get more information and get signed up by calling 343-4065.

Stueckle Sky Center - BSU

The 4th annual "Uncorked Idaho" will help raise funds for Camp Erin this Friday evening at the Stueckle Sky Center at Boise State. Uncorked Idaho raises funds each year to help charitable organizations. Camp Erin is a special opportunity for children who have lost a parent. Tickets for the wine tasting event are $40 in advance by calling 401-2109 or you can get your tickets on line by clicking here. If you wait it will cost you $50 per person to get tickets at the door.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho

"Magical Moments" is coming this Saturday night and will help the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southwest Idaho. The cost is $100 per person and the funds raised from the evening will go to the mentoring program where High School age students are matched with elementary children identified by the school as needing a positive role model. April is child abuse awareness month and you may not realize we had 294 cases of child abuse in Ada County last year alone. The Family Advocates program had two ways to help through the Families First program that helps parents to become better parents, and the CASA program that helps represent child in foster to have a voice in the court system. Boise State University

The Boise State Men's Tennis team, currently ranked 19th in the nation will face Denver University in a match at 12 noon today. The action will be outside at the Appleton Tennis Center and everyone is welcome to come cheer the Broncos on to victory. There is no charge to attend and parking is free in front of the Taco Bell Arena.

Stagecoach Theatre

"The Movie Game" is the latest production for Stagecoach Theatre and is the story of a man who loves the movies, but has no job and still lives with his parents. The romantic comedy examines what happens when a therapist recommends he make his own movie and be the star in an effort to move on with his life. The problem starts when he falls for engaged woman. The show opens this week and runs for the next three weeks at the theatre in the Hillcrest Shopping Center at Overland and Orchard. The wonderful family musical from a Mark Twain classis will open this weekend at the Nampa Civic Center. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is the latest production for Music Theatre Idaho. Nampa Civic Center

"Your Money Matters" is a free financial seminar this Friday at the Nampa Civic Center. There is no charge by you need to register in advance by calling 378-0200 ext 777. State Treasurer Ron Crane will be a keynote speaker at the half day event starting at 8:30 am. Food will be provided and everyone is encouraged to attend to learn more about personal finance and money management.

Boise Centre on the Grove

The 22nd annual Beaux Arts Wine Festival is tonight at the Boise Centre on the Grove. Tickets will be available at the door for $50 per person. The evening will feature more than 250 wine vendors with silent auction items. The funds raised go to the Boise Art Museum for special exhibits and ongoing expenses.
