July 2008 ArchivesJulia Davis ParkThe Soul Food Extravaganza is this Saturday in Julia Davis Park. The event has grown this year and will feature a lot more activities. Soul food is still the main attraction but there will be games, music, mascots and a classic car show. The fun begins at 11:45 and will go until 8 pm and there's no charge to attend you just by food tickets to get what ever you want or to play any of the games. The funds raised will help with the Rosa Parks Scholarship at Boise State University.

Nampa Lakeview ParkA crime prevention fair will be held this Saturday at Nampa's Lakeview Park from 10 am to 3 pm. The fair will feature demonstrations with K-9 units, Bomb Squad robots, and DigiKids will be doing digital photos of children just incase anything should ever happen to your children. Everything is free including hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages. Bring the entire family this Saturday August 2nd.

Meridian FireThe annual Salmon Barbeque for the Meridian Fire Department is this Friday night at the Meridian Speedway. The fundraiser benefits the Fire Department and is one night only starting at 5 pm for seniors and 6 pm for everyone else. The cost of the dinner is $5 for children, $10 for seniors and $12 if you buy your tickets in advance or $14 at the door. This is also the 100th anniversary of the Meridian Fire Department and there will be special activities Friday night and on Saturday as well in Settlers Park.

Chateau Park, MeridianThe first Tuesday in August each year is National Night Out. This is when neighbors get together as a sign of unity against crime and problems in their neighborhoods. The events are easy to plan and it's not too late for this year. All you need to do is organize a get together with your neighbors and call law enforcement and let them know the time you will be gathering and representatives from police, sheriffs, paramedics or firefighters are all of the above will attend and talk about ongoing efforts and answer questions.

Nampa Civic Center"Jesus Christ Superstar" is the latest production for Music Theatre Idaho and will open at the Nampa Civic Center on Thursday July 24 and will run one weekend only. There are only 4 performances with shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday including a matinee on Saturday afternoon. Call the box office at 468-2385 or click here to order your tickets on line.

Boondocks Fun CenterVolunteers are needed for the Special Olympic World Winter Games in 2009 and a special recruitment will be held today from 4 pm to 9 pm at Boondocks Fun Center. Anyone who is interested helping out when the world comes to Idaho for the Special Olympic Games you should come to Boondocks to sign up. Volunteers are needed in all areas from food, to transportation, to awards and especially language services. There's no charge to come in to Boondocks tonight to sign up and if you do become a volunteer you will receive a voucher for Boondocks.

Caldwell Train DepotThe 7th annual Bikefest will be this weekend in the Caldwell area in and around Memorial Park. The event will start both days at 9 am and is free to the public. If you want to participate with either a motorcycle or a classic car it will cost you $10 and the funds raised will go to help the Canyon County Organization on Aging. That group helps seniors with a variety of programs from health care issues to winterization.

Nampa Civic CenterThe Harmony Corral Vocal Showcase is this Saturday night at the Nampa Civic Center. The showcase is a variety of music done by some of the most talented young people in the valley. This is one show only and will be Saturday night at 7 pm. Tickets will be available at the door or you could call the box office at 468-5555 to reserve your seats in advance. The cost is $7 for adults and $6 for seniors and children 12 and under.

Idaho Center, NampaThis is day two for the Buckaroo Breakfast today in association with the Snake River Stampede Rodeo. The breakfast is from 7 am to 10 am and costs $4 with the proceeds going to the Canyon County 4-H clubs. At 7:30 this morning there will be a market show for the youngsters involved in the Calf Scramble from last year. The winners have been raising their heifers since last year and will show them today. There is no charge for the market show. Tonight at the first night of the rodeo will be Leon Coffee night to honor the longtime rodeo clown who is retiring.

Idaho Center, NampaIt's Snake River Stampede week and the action starts with the Buckaroo Breakfast both today and tomorrow. The breakfast features eggs, sausage, and pancakes for just $4 and will help benefit the Canyon County 4-H clubs. The breakfast will run from 7 am to 10 am and the slack competition (the rodeo timed event overflow) will start at 8 am and there is no charge to attend. The rodeo itself starts tomorrow night and will run through Saturday.

The dolphins will be dropped into the raceway for the endless river at Roaring Springs on Sunday August 17th. The dolphins can be adopted for just $5 each and you can adopt as many as you like.

Caldwell Center for the Arts"Same time next year" is the latest production for Can-Act and will open tomorrow Friday at the Caldwell Center for the Arts. The adult comedy follows a couple who gets together once a year to continue an affair for many years. The production will run for 2 weeks only with shows this week on Friday and Saturday. Next week will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You can get tickets by calling the box office at 442-0676 or you can click here to go the theatre website.

Lakeview Park, NampaThe Nampa Kiwanis Club is holding its annual Steak Fry tomorrow (Thursday) night at Nampa's Lakeview Park. This the largest fundraiser of the year for the club which in turn helps support youth programs like the Boys and Girls club and the RAD Choir. The steak fry will start at 5 pm and the cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under and under the age of 3 is free.

Downtown NampaIt's time again for Snake River Dayz in downtown Nampa. The 2 day celebration is in advance of the Snake River Stampede next week. Friday night will be a chili cook-off and feed along with a Kids Rodeo and a street dance. The events start at 6 pm and run through 11 pm. On Saturday there is an all American Breakfast starting at 7 am followed by water activities for the kids and the Snake River Stampede parade at 11 am.

Stagecoach Theatre"Greater Tuna" is a day in the life of Tuna, Texas population 34 and the third smallest town in the state of Texas. The comedy is the latest production at Stagecoach Theatre in the covered portion of the Hillcrest shopping center off Overland and Orchard. All 34 residents of the same town are portrayed by 2 actors in a series of funny vignettes. The show will open this Friday and will run for the next 3 weeks. Julia Davis ParkThe annual Gem State Kiwanis Pancake breakfast is today, the 4th of July, and will run from 7 am to 11 am at Julia Davis Park. The cost is $5 for adults and $4 for children and seniors. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Gem State Kiwanis club which helps support youth programs. One of their main efforts now is the mobile recreation program through the Boise Parks and Recreation Department bringing recreation to schools and neighborhoods.

Caldwell Train DepotFriday Night Express is a free concert series at the Caldwell Train Depot that happens on the first Friday of June, July and August from 5 pm to 9 pm. The family friendly event is part of the restoration of the Caldwell Depot. In addition to the concert there are special activities for children and extra entertainment. The entire event is free.

Expo IdahoNorthwest Motorfest, the largest car show in Idaho will be this weekend at Expo Idaho. In addition you have a chance to win a 1959 Ford Edsel for just $5 and benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Idaho in granting wishes to children with life threatening medical conditions. The Motorfest show opens Saturday and Sunday at 9 am with the free downtown cruise Saturday night. It's a celebration of everything motorized and will feature 3 of the stars from American Graffiti.
