Military History Museum

Medal of Honor Day is next week, March 25th. The Military History Museum will be celebrating the day on Tuesday with visits by two of Idaho’s Congressional Medal of Honor winners. The day was selected because it was March 25, 1863 that the first medals were awarded during the Civil War. The Medal of Honor is the highest award a member of the military can receive. Idaho has a total connection to 41 Medal of Honor recipients in some way.

Boas Tennis Center

The Boise State Broncos will be in action as the Spring Break Tennis Tournament kicks off today at the Appleton Tennis Center at 10 am this morning. The 35th ranked Broncos will face Georgia State in the first round with action continuing throughout the day. The finals will wrap up tomorrow. Matches will be played at the Appleton Tennis Center, the Boise Racquet & Swim Club, Julia Davis Park and Crane Creek Country Club. All matches are open to the public and free.

Doubletree Riverside

A “Weekend to Remember” is coming to the Doubletree Riverside next weekend March 28-30. This is for married couples or those who are preparing for marriage. If your spouse can’t make it you can still attend the event. Activities will help couples learn how to breakdown barriers in their relationship. Eagle High School

Rachel’s Challenge comes to Eagle High School this morning and Meridian High School this afternoon. Schools all over the valley have been hosting the assemblies and helping students to receive the message of Rachel’s Challenge. You can as well, with a special event tonight at the Idaho Center in Nampa. 7 pm tonight everyone is welcome and you should bring the entire family to receive the message tonight. The event is free.

Doubletree Riverside

The Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo is this Saturday at the Doubletree Riverside. The daylong event will run from 9 am to 4 pm and there is no cost to attend. This is your chance to learn more about fly fishing and get a chance to see demonstrations on fly tying and take lessons on casting. There is a $10 charge for the fly casting classes. A banquet will follow for $30 each. If you want tickets or more information you can call 463-9443.

It’s St. Patrick’s Day and that means the Tiernan Irish Dancers will be celebrating with several performances around the valley. If you would like to catch them during a free show you can see them in Nampa at City Hall at 11:30 this morning and they will be in Boise at City Hall at 12 noon. City Light Warehouse

The Boise Rescue Mission is conducting a special food drive called “March for Hunger” in an effort to keep their food shelves full. A little more than 850 meals are served everyday through the different facilities. Today members of the Girl Scouts along with volunteers from Rotary were helping to sort some of the recent donations. Look for donation barrels at the Rescue Mission facilities.

Square and Round Dance Center

The An Daire Academy of Irish Dance will be doing 14 performances in the next 3 days in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The Boise Irish Dance Group has been entertaining in the local area for years and you can catch them this weekend. They have 5 performances on Saturday and 9 on Monday. The easiest place to see them will be at Barnes and Noble in Boise on Saturday at 2 pm.

Maple Grove Grange

The Maple Grove Grange will host a fundraiser for all the 4-H clubs in Ada County. The Grange Hall is located just off Cloverdale and Executive Drive just around the corner North of Treasure Valley Coffee. The event is tomorrow night starting at 5pm with a chili feed followed with a silent and live auction. Items have been gathered by 4-H members and all the proceeds will go to the clubs for projects in the coming year.

Middleton High School

Middleton High School will be reopening the rebuilt High School/ Middle School in the fall of 2008. In the meantime school continues and the booster club will be holding its annual Viking Luau this Saturday night. The dinner and auction will be held in the school gym starting at 5 pm. Tickets are still available by going to the Syringa Bank or Ridley’s in Middleton and the cost is $15.

Zoo Boise

It’s time for the Easter EGG-stravaganza at Zoo Boise. This Saturday March 15th from 10 am to 5 pm there will be special activities for children of all ages. The Easter Bunny will be making an appearance for photos. Egg Scrambles will be held on the main lawn for the children in several age groups. Alano Club

Space Age fun is what you’ll find at the Alano Club as Prairie Dog Productions presents “Smash Gordon”. Smash, the future quarterback for the Boise State Broncos must save the earth from the “Sting” the Superfluous and the planet of the apes. It’s part of the musical, comedy, farce and fun for the entire family. You should call the box office at 336-7383 to get your tickets in advance. The show opens this weekend and will run until April 12th. The theatre is located at Cassia and Latah in Boise.

Nampa High School

The Nampa High School Boosters club will be holding their annual Dinner/Auction to help raise funds for special projects at the school. The cost for the dinner is $20 and will be held in the cafeteria of the High School. Live auction items include 2 round trip airline tickets and a sideline pass and call play at the Nampa-Bishop Kelly football game in the fall. Tickets will be available at the door.

YMCA Homecourt

Tryouts for AAU Basketball begin today. This weekend girls in the 8th and 9th grades will be evaluated by volunteers and then selected for teams by coaches. The boys in 8th and 9th grades will be evaluated next week. If you missed today’s for some reason there is a makeup session on Tuesday and the same will happen for the boys next week. There is no need to register ahead of time; athletes just need to show up in the time frame for the school they will attend. Boise State

The Boise State Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams are back in action at home with matching being played at the Appleton Tennis Center on campus. Matches start this afternoon and will continue through Sunday. The Broncos will actually play tomorrow and Sunday and all matches are scheduled to be outdoors, however, matches will be moved into the Boas Tennis Center if there are weather related problems.

Expo Idaho

You can see America’s Most Beautiful Roadster at the annual Boise Roadster show at Expo Idaho. The show continues today through Sunday with the championships announced at 6 pm Sunday evening. The Amp NASCAR of Dale Ernhardt Jr. is also on display and the kids will have a chance to meet Spiderman who will be hanging around the show through the weekend.

Idaho Humane Society

A sale and swap this weekend will help benefit the Idaho Humane Society Rescue Ranch. Horse tack items and western wear will go on sale Saturday morning at 10 am. The sale is located in the education center at the Humane Society south of the airport. Some items have been donated and others are on consignment. If you have items you can still drop them off before the sale starts.

Sawtooth Middle School

The Crime Stoppers program will be the beneficiary of a celebrity volleyball game. The match will feature members of law enforcement playing against a celebrity team. The celebrity team will feature former Boise State Football players Ryan Clady, Ia Falo, and Jerard Rabb. There is also a raffle for an all terrain vehicle with a limited number of tickets and they are $25 each. To attend they have special pricing for adults and children. $15 will be the cost for one adult and 2 children. The doors open at 5 pm on Saturday March 8th with action at 6 pm.

Boise State University

The Sawtooth Mountain Film Festival and College Rail Jam will be at Boise State University this weekend. The film festival is a 2 night event on Friday and Saturday at the Special Events Center on campus. The Rail Jam is free and will be in the quad area of campus. The film festival is $8 at the door or $6 in advance. You can call 426-1946 for advance tickets. The Rail Jam will involve 5 truck loads of snow brought in and action will start at 1 pm in the center of campus.

Stagecoach Theatre

“Spinning into Butter” is the latest production for Stagecoach Theatre. The drama examines the reactions to a racial incident on a college campus. Due to language in the show it carries an “R” rating. The show will open this weekend and will run on Friday and Saturday nights for the next 3 weeks with curtain at 8:15. For the next two weeks there will also be Thursday night shows at 7:30 and one Sunday matinee at 2 pm. You should call the box office at 342-2000 to get your tickets in advance because they frequently sell out. The theatre is located in the covered portion of the Hillcrest shopping center off Overland and Orchard.

Northwest Nazarene Brandt Center

“South Pacific” is the spring musical for Northwest Nazarene University. You have only three chances to see the production this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with 7:30 pm the curtain time. The classic stage production is a love story set during World War II and you can get your tickets in advance by calling the box office at 467-8413.

Assistance League of Boise

The Assistance League of Boise is getting ready for Cinderella’s Closet again this year. The League building is next door to their thrift store and across from Memorial Stadium by the fairgrounds. Prom dresses will be available from April 2nd to May 17th, Wednesdays from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm and Saturdays 12 pm to 3 pm. A small fee of $10 will be charged to cover cleaning costs. A similar event will be held in Canyon County at the Conner Family Funeral Chapel from April 1st to May 8th. The hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 pm to 5 pm. This year the guys can also get a tuxedo for the same $10 cleaning charge.

Girl Scout Office

It’s Girl Scout cookie time. Girl Scouts have been out getting advanced orders and will be delivering cookies this weekend. If you didn’t get a chance to pre-order don’t worry. You can still buy them at several locations. If you click on the link below you will find a spot at the bottom of the page that will help you find a cookie sale location. Girls involved in scouting use the cookie sales to raise funds for special activities like one group going to Ecuador to perform service in the schools of that country.
