February 2008 ArchivesKuna 4th Street GymThe Kuna disaster fund auction will be tomorrow at the 4th street gym. The funds from this auction will help families in the Kuna area when natural disasters strike. Most common are fires and you can help by attending the auction and buy any of hundreds of items. The 4th street gym is just to the northwest of the 4-way stop on Main Street in Kuna. The auction will start at 11 am and go until every item has been sold.

Expo IdahoThe Boise Capital Lions Club is again hosting the trout pond during the Sportsmen’s show this weekend at Expo Idaho. Children 12 and under are encouraged to come and try their hand at fishing with a 10 minute time limit or until they catch a fish, which ever comes first. The cost is $1 and the funds raised will go to help the Lions Club in their efforts to help with eyesight care and providing glasses to those who can’t afford them. Children who catch a fish can keep it if they want, but they will win a prize and if they catch one of the golden trout they will win a bigger prize.

Vallivue High SchoolThe Vallivue High School FFA will be holding a dinner and auction this Saturday in the agricultural building at the school. The Tri-Tip steak dinner will cost just $5 per person and it will be followed by a live and silent auction of a variety of items. The funds raised go to college scholarships and travel scholarships for the students. The event on Saturday night starts with the dinner at 6 pm and the auction at 7 pm.

Idaho Public TelevisionFestival 2008 will be starting on Saturday March 1st on Idaho Public Television. This is the largest fundraising event of the year with 61% of the budget for programming coming from private donations. They need your help to continue the educational programming by becoming a member which start at $30. Watch public television any time between March 1st to the 16th to learn more and how to become a member.

200 Broad StreetThe annual Bike Swap is this weekend at the warehouse located at 200 Broad Street. The location is across the street from the Ada County Court house and just to the west of Winco. Those who want to drop off equipment for sale can do so on Thursday evening starting at 6 pm to 9 pm and Friday from noon to 4 pm. The sale hours are Friday 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturday 10 am to 4 pm.

Nampa Civic CenterThe Idaho Chapter of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep will hold its 23rd annual banquet and auction tonight at the Nampa Civic Center. Tickets are still available but you need to call to get them today. The number is 869-6832 and activities will start at 3:30 this afternoon with dinner at about 5:30. The cost is $80 per couple and the funds raised will go to help protect habitat and fund research and special projects to help protect the wild sheep.

Nampa Christian SchoolThe Nampa Christian School Country Fair and Auction will open this morning at 6 am and will continue tonight and tomorrow. The day starts with an auction preview and pancake breakfast. There is no charge to attend the event but you will pay for what ever you order for breakfast. Tonight’s activities kick off at 5 pm with a dinner and the auction will start at 7:30 pm. The auction will continue tomorrow morning starting again at 10 am. Everyone is welcome.

Nampa Outback SteakhouseThe Nampa Outback Steakhouse will open its doors early today to benefit the Nampa Optimist Football program. Starting at 11:30 am and going until 1:00 pm you can purchase a special lunch for $10 and the funds go to the youth football program. Funds raised today will help with the ongoing costs of the program that serves more than 900 children. Everyone is invited to attend.

Bogus Basin“Hope on the Slopes” is a skiing and snowboarding event at Bogus Basin to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Participants should sign up now in teams of 10 or as an individual. El Kora ShrineThe El Kora Shrine presents its 45th annual Melodrama. There are 5 performance dates, March 1st, 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th. This year’s show is “She was only marginally modest”. South Junior HighSouth Junior High School will be celebrating its 60th anniversary on February 21st. The 50th anniversary was missed so students and faculty want to make this celebration a big one. Everyone is invited to come to South Junior High on February 21st from 7 pm to 9 pm and sign memory messages, tour the school, share stores and pictures and be entertained by the band and choir. Junior League of Boise“Especially Me” is a program offered by the Junior League of Boise for young girls between the ages of 9 and 12. The program is a series of three classes for 2 hours each and the girls learn about self esteem though activities and discussions. The participants learn how to deal with messages from the media about body types and peer pressure. The cost is $20 for each girl and scholarships are available. Rose BallroomThe Idaho Federation of Families will host its second annual Firefighters Bachelor Bid tonight at the Rose Ballroom in downtown Boise. Tickets are still available and can be purchased either at the door or you can get them in advance at the Record Exchange for $25. The evening includes a hosted bar and hors d ‘oeuvres. The bid packages all include dinner and an activity and the firefighters are from the BLM, Helitack, Boise Smokejumpers, Idaho City Hotshots and Boise and Nampa Fire Departments.

Tea for Tutus is on Saturday February 23rd at the Grove Hotel from 1 pm to 3 pm and the cost is $35 for adults and $30 for children and young dancers are invited to attend. Nampa Civic CenterThe Nampa chapter of Ducks Unlimited will have their annual banquet on February 16th at the Nampa Civic Center. Nampa Mayor Tom Dale will be the host of the evening with tickets $45 each and $65 for couples as long as purchase them in advance. You can do that by calling 850-5408 and getting your tickets by February 11th. If tickets are still available at the door it will cost you $55 each or $85 per couple. The ticket price includes your membership to Ducks Unlimited and will help preserve habitat for waterfowl.

Brundage Mountain, McCallThe Winter Games of Idaho continue this weekend at Brundage Mountain. Today is also Ground Hog Day and that means that Boise’s own prognosticator couldn’t miss out on the fun was spotted on the slopes of Brundage and did not see his shadow. That means we will have an early spring. The kids took over the slopes for their races and we have special live coverage tonight at 5 and 6 with Doug Petcash and Carolyn Holly. Tomorrow the adults will have their races at Brundage.

Kids are helping Kids at the Downtown YMCA from 3:30 to 5:30 this afternoon. The kids get pledges and then spin this afternoon with adult volunteers to raise money that will benefit other children. The YMCA never turns away a child just because they can’t afford a membership and the funds being raised today will help support that program. Children can still sign up for the program and come down this afternoon to work out with athletes from Boise State, the Idaho Stampede and the Boise Burn.
