Toys and stuffed animals and clothing of all sizes for boys and girls are being collected by the Garden City Police and the North Ada County Fire Department. You can take your donations to the Police station or the Fire department by Hawks stadium before December 20th.

Fred MeyerIt’s time to Stuff the Bus. The annual toy drive for the Salvation Army is tomorrow at all Fred Meyer locations in the valley. We need your help with toy donations. Valley Ride buses will be placed in front of all Fred Meyers and toys are needed to help some 1,800 families in the area. Toys for toddlers and teens are most needed.

O'Connor Field House, CaldwellFinal preparations are underway for the Night Light Parade in Caldwell. The parade is this Saturday night. Carolyn Holly will be the Grand Marshall of the parade that will be on Blaine Avenue and right in front of the O’Connor Field house is the best place to watch the action. Before the parade activity there will be an open house at the Caldwell Fire Department.

Meridian LibraryMemorial Trees are set up in 13 libraries around the valley. The trees have been put there by Hospice programs and are in place for us to remember loved ones we have lost. If you have someone you’d like to remember you can go to any of the libraries and put memorial message on one of the trees. The libraries are located in Meridian, Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, Ada Community, Eagle, Garden City, Mountain Home, Emmett, Middleton, Wilder, Payette and Ontario. There is no charge. Hope Lutheran ChurchHope Lutheran Church will be holding a Holiday Bazaar that features Ten Thousand Villages. The national organization is a non-profit that helps artisans in third world countries. The bazaar will be this weekend only on Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from noon to 4pm. The church is located at the intersection of Highway 44 and Linder Road just west of Eagle. If you can make it this weekend Ten Thousand Villages has a store in Hyde Park.

Franklin ElementaryProject Tutor is a program to help elementary students. Some students need a little more help than what teachers are able to provide in the traditional classroom. Adults who would like to volunteer to help students improve their skills are needed. The skills are in math, reading, spelling and other classroom activities. If you have a little time to spare for students you can call the program at 859-1310 to learn more.

Simplot Academy AnnexOne of the icons of the Holiday season is the Nutcracker Ballet. Ballet Idaho will present the timeless ballet on three dates with a total of 4 shows all at the Morrison Center. The shows are December 14th through the 16th. Friday and Saturday will have 8pm shows and Saturday and Sunday will have matinees at 2pm. Nampa Civic CenterYou can kick start your holiday season with a special performance of “The Grintch” presented by Prairie Dog Productions at the Nampa Civic Center. This production is based loosely on the classic book by Dr. Suess but has all the fun of a musical, comedy, parody farce. You can see the show Thursday, Friday or Saturday night at 7 pm with a matinee at 2 pm. Admission is $13 for adults and $6 for children. Linden HouseNorthwest Children’s Home, Inc. is in the process of opening a transitional home for girls 18-22 in Boise’s north end. In an effort to help raise funds the Holiday Snow Ball will be held on Friday November 30th at the Basque Center. Tickets are $100 per person and will involve a dinner and auction with dancing. GroveDowntown Boise is the place to be tonight to kick off the Christmas and holiday season with the lighting of the Downtown Christmas tree. Activities will start at 5 pm and should wrap up about 6:30 pm when the tree is lit by Boise Mayor Dave Bieter with the help of our own Maggie O’Mara. This is also a great time to help the Marines by bringing a new unwrapped toy to make a donation to Toys for Tots.

Boise Centre on the GroveThe Festival of Trees is open today. There are special hours for this Thanksgiving event from 2 pm to 9 pm. The cost is the same $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and children under 12 are $3. In addition to looking at all the decorated trees there is also entertainment on the main stage throughout the day. Santa will also make a visit to hear the requests of the Treasure Valley children.

VFW PostThe Boise Rescue Mission is conducting the greatest Thanksgiving Feast in its history. Two locations today are serving the needs of families in Garden City at the VFW Hall and in Nampa. Most of the families being served by special guest hosts are working poor families. The special servers included many political dignitaries and members of the media including staff from Idaho’s NewsChannel 7.

Meridian FordThe Meridian Optimist Club is holding its annual Christmas tree sale. This is the only fundraising event for the club during the year and the funds raised over the next few weeks will go back to the community many times over. The club just finished doing holiday baskets for those in need and it also sponsors an oratory contest for students. The lot opens this Friday and will continue everyday after business hours and all day Saturday and Sunday on the back lot of Meridian Ford. Downtown BoiseThe Old Boise N-Scale Model Railroad Display opens this Saturday and will be open every Saturday through December 29th. This is a fully working model railroad and perfect for the holiday season. There is no charge to come and look at the trains but donations are accepted. The trains are on the second floor of the old Pioneer Building on 6th and Main in Downtown Boise. The hours are from 10 am to 5 pm every Saturday.

Boise Centre on the GroveThe 24th annual Festival of Trees will open tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Boise Centre on the Grove. The event is a fundraiser for St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center and this year the funds are targeted for the new Center for Advanced Healing. The cost if $6 for adults, $3 for children and seniors are $4. Wednesday is Senior Day when seniors are only $2. The hours are 10 am to 9 pm every day except for Thanksgiving when the hours are 2 pm to 9 pm.

Expo IdahoFood boxes are being distributed to needy families in the area today and tomorrow by the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. The families have already been signed up and prescreened and each will receive a box of food and a turkey for their Thanksgiving dinner. This is an all volunteer operation and it will serve more than 1,950 families in Ada County.

College Church of the NazareneThe Living Christmas Tree is returning to the College Church of the Nazarene in Nampa. Five performances are planned starting next Friday November 30th and running through Monday December 3rd. There is no charge to attend but you need to reserve your tickets ahead of time by calling 466-7094. An offering is asked at the shows and the funds raised will go to local charities. Over the past few years, more than $100,000 has been raised to help the community.

Middleton High SchoolThere’s a special prom in Middleton at the High School but it’s not for the students it’s for the adults. The Middleton High School Jazz Band will provide the entertainment and anyone over 18 years of age can attend. The cost is $12 per person and $20 per couple. The dance and raffle baskets will be from 7 pm to 10 pm tomorrow night in the band room area of the High School and the tickets will be available at the door.

KTVB StudioDue to remote transmission problems we were forced to return to the studio this morning, but our plans were to be at Sacred Heart School for their Holiday Bazaar. The Bazaar will take place today and tomorrow in the gym of the school from 9 am to 5 pm. Funds raised from the items being sold will help keep the school going and keep tuition down for students.

Just bring a turkey to any of the three Sizzler locations in Boise, Meridian, or Caldwell and you will receive a $5 Complimentary Certificate and the turkeys will go to the Salvation Army. The Army puts the turkeys together with food boxes for families through the holiday season.

McDonald's, OverlandInternational Children’s Day is a worldwide activity and is celebrated by McDonald’s restaurants. When you visit you favorite McDonald’s location you can buy a special paper hand that will displayed in store and the money raised will go to support the local Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House helps provide housing for families with children who are hospitalized with long term care.

Les Schwab TireThe annual Turkey Drive for the Idaho Foodbank is underway and we need your help. All Les Schwab Tire locations will be collecting turkeys. Nearly 5,500 turkeys will be given out for Thanksgiving and we now need 1,262 more by Friday. You can go by any of the Les Schwab 12 store locations and drop off your turkey donation through Friday at 5:00 pm.

Boise Centre on the GroveThe Boise chapter of Ducks Unlimited will be holding their annual dinner an auction fundraising event Thursday night. Funds raised will go to wetlands conservation where more than 6.2 million dollars have been spent in Idaho over the last several years. If you would like to come to the dinner you can call 860-6705 and tickets are $75 per person or $115 for a couple. Greenwings (children) are just $50. The doors open at 5:30 pm.

Boise State UniversityVeterans day is being celebrated today to honor not only veterans but also active duty military person and members of the reserve and guard. A special ceremony was held today at Boise State University where a 21 gun salute was fired at Bronco Stadium and the rest of the activities were held in the quad area. Flags were raised at noon and messages were being sent to troops overseas.

Bronco Shop, NampaThe “Toys for Tots” program kicks off for the season this weekend at Boise State. Everyone who attends the Boise State/Idaho game is encouraged to bring a brand new unwrapped toy to the game. Marines will be stationed at all entrances of the stadium and when you select a toy you should remember the age 0-2 and 10 and older. Those are the hardest to get enough gifts.

WoodcraftWood pens are being produced for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan as gifts and thanks for their service to our country. Three groups in the area are involved in the effort, the Southwest Idaho Woodturners, Skyview High School students and the Magic Valley Woodturners. 1,000 pens are being produced and will be sent out with the intent of having them arrive in time for Christmas.

Humphreys Diabetes CenterThe Humphreys Diabetes Center is celebrating 20 years of service to individuals and families today. An open house is scheduled this afternoon from 4pm to 6pm at the center at 1226 River Street in Boise. The museum will host a breakfast for veterans from 8 am to 12 noon. There is special pricing with $6 for breakfast and admission to the museum. Bogus Basin Downtown OfficeIt’s time for the annual Snow Blast. The open house is a pre-snow season party and a chance for ski clubs and groups to add new members. The Snow Blast is set for tomorrow from 12 pm to 4 pm at the downtown office for Bogus Basin. There is no charge to attend and concessions will be available. A special chant will be done to attract snow to the mountain for the upcoming ski season.

Military History MuseumVeteran’s Day will be celebrated by the Idaho Military History on Saturday. The idea is not to conflict with other events on Sunday. The museum will open during normal business hours but a special night of firing cannons and other period weapons from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Admission will be $3 for adults and $1 for students with 6 and under free. Bring the entire family and have fun while learning about different times in our military history.

Proceeds from the sale of the wreaths will benefit St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital. The event runs from 11 am to 8 pm with the gala set for 5 pm to 8 pm. St. Luke's AuxilaryChristmas cards are now being sold by St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital. The cards sold in packets of 20 each and there are new designs again this year. The packets sell for $16 and come with 21 envelopes. Proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital and you can buy them in many locations including all the Hallmark stores and in the lobby of St. Luke’s Hospital downtown. Expo Idaho (Fairgrounds)The annual Ski Swap is on at Expo Idaho the fairgrounds through this weekend. The sale will open at 5 pm today (Friday) and runs through Sunday. Items can still be dropped off for sale until 9 pm tonight. There is a $3 charge to attend the sale but all the proceeds will go to help the Bogus Basin Ski Racing Alliance which in turn helps young ski racers for training and travel.

Nampa Civic CenterThe annual Chocolate Affaire is coming to the Nampa Civic Center this weekend. The special fundraising event helps the Nampa chapter of Soroptimist International give back to the community. The Soroptimists help many different organizations in the area throughout the year. The Chocolate Affaire will be Friday night from 6 pm to 10 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm. There’s no charge to attend, but you can buy lots of chocolate treats.
