Nampa High School

The Nampa High School Boosters will be raising funds for all extra-curricular activities. The group will be holding its first ever dinner auction on April 6th in the Nampa High cafeteria. The evening will feature both live and silent auction and tickets are available at Nampa High by calling the school 465-2760. The cost is $20 per person or you can sponsor a table of 8 for $200.

Appleton Tennis Center

The Boise State men’s tennis team is hosting its annual spring break tournament. The action starts this morning at 9:00 am as the Broncos will be hosting Texas-Arlington. The action will wrap up tomorrow with the finals set fro 1:00 pm. All the play will be at the Appleton Tennis Center on the campus and there is no charge to attend.

Zoo Boise

The Easter Bunny will be making a special guest appearance at Zoo Boise on Saturday. It’s all part of the Zoo’s Eggstravaganza with colorful eggs for the children and animals. Its part of the spring kickoff for the Zoo that also features an egg scramble for the children with separate age groups. The Zoo is open on Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Boise State, Student Union Building

Hui-O-Aloha will present a Polynesian Paradise Luau on April 21st at Boise State. The annual event raises funds for the Boise State group. You can experience Island style buffet dinner and traditional dances from the Islands. The cost is $20 per person and $15 for students. Reserved seats are $30 and you can get tickets by calling the information desk at BSU at 426-4636.

Idaho Tax Commission

Tax time is drawing near. This year the filing deadline is April 17th because the 15th falls on the weekend. There is a new payment option called an “E-check” and it’s available on the State Tax Commission Website. (See link below) The option is available for those who owe $200 or more to the state. Everyone is encouraged to file electronically for accuracy and for quicker refunds. You can do that through a provider you can locate from the tax commission web site.

Boise State University

The Gene Harris Jazz Festival is coming up April 4-6 with several different events around the community. This year features collaboration with the Idaho Black History Museum and Idaho Parents Unlimited. Club night is Wednesday April 4th and will feature Henry Butler who is a 5 time W.C. Boise Centre on the Grove

The Boise Flower and Garden show is on at the Boise Centre on the Grove with several seminars planned. This is the perfect time to start planning of your yard this year. Assistance League of Boise

“Cinderella’s Closet” is a program done by the Assistance League of Boise to help High School girls who need a prom dress. The program is open to any young lady who lives in Ada County all they need do is come by the Assistance league off Glenwood starting April 4th through May 19th. They are open Wednesdays 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm and Saturdays from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The only charge is a $10 cleaning fee.

You can “Bowl for Kids Sake” at any one of three events for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. The first will be on March 31st at Nampa Bowl, the next is April 14th at Meridian Lanes and the third is April 21st in Boise at Westys. Nampa Civic Center

“March against Meth” continues. The intense two days of special events will wrap up today in Canyon County. The Nampa Civic Center will host a luncheon for the Chamber of Commerce members to meet with national speaker Milton Creagh. Tonight everyone in the valley is invited to the Idaho Center for the Family Finale. There’s no charge for the event and it starts at 7:00 pm, so bring the entire family.

Meridian School District

The “March against Meth” hits full stride today with a kickoff breakfast. The event is a call to action for business and community leaders. The breakfast was hosted by Drug free Idaho which is the organization that started following the last visit by nationally known speaker Milton Creagh to the Treasure Valley. There’s a complete schedule of events on our home page and everyone is invited to the Idaho Center tomorrow night for a free Family Night Finale.

Boise Centre on the Grove

The annual Beaux Arts Wine Festival will be April 15th through the 21st. Several activities are planned with the event wrapping up Saturday April 21st with the gala dinner and auction. Tickets are still available by calling select-a-seat or you can go to the web site below. The week includes wine tasting and patron dinners and the funds raised go to help support the Boise Art Museum.

It’s St. Patrick’s Day and we spent the morning with the Tiernan Irish Dancers. They have several events upcoming the rest of this month and you can catch them in several different locations. Jeannie Bixby will be traveling to Glasgow, Scotland on the 29th along with group instructor Bekah Wheeler.

St. Michael's Cathedral

The Lenten Luncheons are underway at St. Michael’s Cathedral and today is the 4th installment. The luncheons are open to everyone and are one of the biggest fundraisers for the church and money raised will help to renovate the kitchen and community charities. The luncheons are held every Friday during the Lenten season. If you would like to attend just show up any time between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm today through March 30th. The cost for lunch is just $5 and $2.50 for a piece of homemade pie or you can purchase the whole pie for $10.

Middleton High School

The Middleton High School Boosters will be holding their annual fundraising dinner and auction this Saturday night. You can still attend and tickets will be available at the door. The evening will cost you $15 and the doors will open 5:00 pm. The funds raised will go to help with extra circular activities at the High School and for scholarships for graduating seniors as they go on to higher education. In addition for $1 you can purchase raffle tickets to win a cruise to Mexico.

Idaho Correctional Center

A dog training program at the Idaho Correctional Center helps the Humane Society of Idaho. The shelter dogs are taken to the facility where inmates work with them for 8 weeks to give them basic obedience training. The dogs are all spade or neutered given their shots and chipped by the Humane Society then with the training they become more marketable for adoption. The dogs selected for the program are the ones who don’t get adopted normally. The inmates must qualify for the program as well by their behavior and education.

Dress for Success

“Dress for Success” helps not only adult women but also their children. The program gives women in need work appropriate attire to help them transition back into the workforce. The program for children is called “Kids Kloset” and volunteers are needed. This is a great opportunity to get your child age 12-18 involved. They can learn about giving and helping and about appropriate dress. Call 288-4405 if you would like more information to get signed up.

Downtown Boise

The “Off the Wall” art sale opens this morning in the downtown Boise area. Art work as been donated from individuals and will be sold over the next two days. The sale location is 824 Idaho Street between 8th and 9th. Doors open at 10:00 am today and the sale runs through 5:00 pm and tomorrow 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. There is no charge to enter and funds raised will go to help the Boise Art Museum.

Expo Idaho

The 35th annual Boise Roadster Show runs through the weekend at Expo Idaho the home of the Western Idaho Fair. This year’s show features the Snap-on Tools custom chopper and America’s most beautiful roadster called the “Radster”. The show opens today at 3:00 pm and runs through 10:00 pm. This weekend its open Saturday 11:00 am to 10:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Greenleaf Friends Academy

It’s time again for the annual Quaker Village Auction at Greenleaf Friends Academy in Greenleaf. The highlight of the event is the hand-made quilts put together by volunteers in the area. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the private school to help keep costs down for students. The event starts Friday evening at 6:00 with the auction of several hundred items going on through Saturday. There’s no charge to attend and concessions will be available for sale.

Alano Club

Nick Bracy is the latest production for Prairie Dog Productions. It’s a musical comedy farce based on the Dick Tracy character. Nick Bracy will be trying to rid the Chicago area of evil villains who are trying to sell illegal alcohol in this family friendly production at the Alano Club. The theatre is located near the corner of Cassia and Latah in Boise and you can get tickets in advance by calling 336-7383 or on line at the link below.

Timberline High School

The students at Timberline High School are challenging the Faculty to a basketball game and winner will be the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Idaho. The game is at 6:00 pm with the doors opening at 5:00 pm. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors. The students worked out this morning and were predicting a victory over what they call the fat and lazy faculty.

A fundraising dinner will be held this weekend at the Lakeview Golf Club for the Salmon River Jetboat races. The evening will consist of not just dinner but a silent and live auction. The money raised will help with the Jetboat races coming up April 21st and 22nd in Riggins, Idaho. The annual sale of Girl Scout cookies has begun. Look for Girl Scouts in your neighborhood selling cookies but it not for the first time ever you can buy your cookies at a drive by location. The Girl Scouts have set up a tent at the Mountain West Bank on Fairview just east of Eagle road directly across from Wal-Mart. It’s time for the annual Bike Swap. There are thousands of mountain bikes, road bikes and accessories you can purchase. If you have a bike or items for sale you still drop it off today from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The swap will open tonight from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm and then tomorrow 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The swap is being put on by Bode and Dobbiaco riding clubs.

Boise State

The Boise State Men’s Tennis team will be back in action at home this weekend. The Broncos will host the University of Utah at 1:30 pm at the Appleton outdoor tennis center, weather permitting. If the weather is adverse the matches will be indoors at the Boas Tennis Center. On Saturday the University of Pennsylvania will challenge the Broncos. Boise State is currently ranked 19th in the nation while Utah is 73rd and Penn is 64th. The matches are all free to the public.
