The Canyon County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual dinner and auction on Saturday December 2nd. The event will be at the Elks Lodge in Caldwell but you should call for your tickets now at 376-1505. The cost is $85.00 per couple for membership and dinner. If you call today you can save $20.00 but that will end this afternoon. The funds raised at the dinner/auction will go to help with wetlands conservation.

Nampa Civic Center

“Cinderella” is the latest production for Music Theatre Idaho at the Nampa Civic Center. The family based show will open this weekend for shows on Friday and Saturday. The shows next week will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A special “Tea with Cinderella” will be held at Elmer’s restaurant in Nampa. Tickets for the Tea and for the shows can be purchased through the box office 468-2385. Show tickets can also be purchased on line.

Department of Health and Welfare

The Junior League of Boise is trying to make Christmas a little more special for Children in Foster care. The children have been referred by the Department of Health and Welfare and will have a special party on December 8th. Gifts have been gathered by the League and every child will have at least one and other items for their needs. If you would like to help with a monetary donation you can contact the league at 424-5011.

Garden City

The Garden City Police Department is again helping families in the local area. This is the 9th year the police have reached out to help and they need assistance from the community. Donations of toys and money are needed. Food and clothing are not being requested just toys and money. Those donations can be brought to the Garden City Police department any time until December 23rd.

Downtown Boise

The annual Holiday parade is today starting at 10:00 am. The parade helps to kick off the holiday season and for the first time ever features some of the large inflatable balloons seen in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York. The parade is carried live on Idaho’s NewsChannel 7 starting at 10:00am and wrapping up at 12:00. This is also one of the collection times for the Toy’s for Tots toy drive. Channel 7 staff members are in the parade collecting toys, so bring a new unwrapped toy to the parade.

The Grove, Boise

The Zions Bank Holiday Tree lighting is scheduled for tonight at the Grove in downtown Boise. This free event is a great way to kick off the season for the entire family. The event will run from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and will feature caroling and entertainment. The Holiday tree will actually be lit just before 6:30 pm and our own Maggie O’Mara will be on hand to host the evening.

Boise Centre on the Grove

It might be Thanksgiving but the Festival of Trees will be open today. If you are looking for a great family activity to help walk off that turkey dinner, then this is you chance. The festival will be open from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm. In addition to seeing some beautiful, fully decorated trees there will be entertainment all day long.

VFW, Garden City

The homeless community was invited today to several locations by the Boise Rescue Mission and one of those was the VFW club in Garden City. Members of the Idaho’s NewsChannel 7 staff and Albertsons served a special Thanksgiving meal to anyone who attended the gathering. In addition Albertsons gave a check for $10,000 to the Rescue Mission to help continue their efforts throughout the year.

Alano Club

Just in time for the Holiday season, Prairie Dog Productions presents “Scrooge, Older but Miser”. It’s a musical, comedy, parody, farce of the Christmas classic. This show is designed for the entire family and will open the weekend of November 24th and play every weekend through December 30th. You should get your tickets in advance by calling the theatre at 336-7383, because the shows often sell out. Boise Centre on the Grove

It’s time again for the annual Festival of Trees at the Boise Centre on the Grove. The annual event is a fund raiser for St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. This is the third year of three where proceeds will go to the intensive care unit. The event opens tomorrow morning at 10:00 am and runs until 9:00 everyday through Sunday on Thanksgiving Day the hours 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Costs are $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. If you bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to the Toys for Tots campaign you will receive a dollar off your admission.

College Church of the Nazarene

The College Church of the Nazarene in Nampa will host the “Living Christmas Tree” again this year. This the 32nd annual celebration of the season and the dates are December 1-4 with most performances at 7:30 pm and two matinees at 4:00 on the 2nd and 3rd. You need to get tickets in advance but there is no charge. The shows are always full so the tickets help to make sure you will have a seat. A good will offering will be collected at each performance and those funds go to charitable organizations in the area. Call 466-7094 to get your tickets reserved.

Boise Art Museum

The Beaux Arts 40th annual Holiday sale is on at the Boise Art Museum. The hours are from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm through Sunday. This is fundraising event of the Beaux Arts, a support organization for the Art Museum. The sale features very unique art pieces and something for every taste and just in time for Christmas gift giving.

Stagecoach Theatre

“Inspecting Carol” is the latest production for Stagecoach Theatre. The show is a comedy and a behind the scenes look at the world’s worst production of a Christmas Carol. This very funny play will open this week on Friday night and will run on a normal schedule for the theatre. Friday and Saturday nights this week, then Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights the next two weeks with a special matinee next Sunday at 2:00. The show times on Friday and Saturday are at 8:15 and Thursdays are at 7:30. You should get your tickets in advance by calling the box office at 342-2000. Stagecoach theatre is located in the covered portion of the Hillcrest Shopping Center off Overland and Orchard.

Boise State University

Boise State will be hosting its 10th annual Health Fair at the Student Union building in the Jordan ballroom today. The students from the Health Promotions department are hosting the health fair. It’s free to everyone and parking behind the Student Recreation center is also free. The fair will be open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and features professionals from throughout the valley giving demonstrations and answering questions in all areas of health care.

Les Schwab Tire

Turkeys are needed by the Idaho Foodbank and you can make those donations at any of the Les Schwab Tire locations or at R.C.Willey. We are currently 2,500 turkeys short of what is needed just for Thanksgiving. Turkeys are also need for Christmas so donations can be made all through the holiday season. The turkeys need to be distributed before Thanksgiving so donations need to be made today or as soon as possible. You can actually bring a frozen turkey to any of the locations or make a cash donation at the Foodbank.

Boise Centre on the Grove

The Boise Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual banquet and fundraiser this Thursday night at the Boise Centre on the Grove. Tickets are still available but you should get them in advance by calling 424-3877 because the banquet was a sell out last year. The price is $70.00 for an individual or $110.00 for a couple. Funds raised from this event will help with wetlands restoration projects across the state and in Canada and Mexico.

Military History Museum

The Military History Museum will be hosting a special event tomorrow night to honor Veterans. Saturday is Veteran’s Day and the museum is inviting everyone to a special evening of demonstrations of “live” fire cannons and other military weapons. This is a fundraiser for the non-profit museum dedicated to Military History so there will be a charge. Adults are $3.00, students with an activity card are $1.00 and those under 6 years of age are free. Anyone in military uniform either active or retired will also be free. The doors will open at 6:30 pm with activities from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm. This is a great way to honor Veterans and every one of all ages will have a great time. The Museum is located south of the airport off Gowen road. Look for the brown signs directing you to the location.

Warhawk Air Museum

Veteran’s Day is this Saturday but on Sunday the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa will be honoring Veterans. A breakfast will be held from 8:00 am until noon and everyone is welcome. Veterans, seniors and children are just $3.00 and everyone else is $6.00. One price gets you admission to the museum and the breakfast. Veterans will be hanging around all day to answer questions and share stories on this special day.

Family Avocate Program

The Family Advocate program will hold its signature event on Friday November 17th. It’s the Gingerbread Holiday Village. Volunteers create gingerbread houses for sale and if you’d like to participate you can by attending a workshop on Saturday November 11 at Boise State to learn about gingerbread construction. The event will be held at Boise State in the student union building on the 17th. Tickets are available by calling the Family Advocate Program at 345-3344 extension 1001, $75.00 per person for the dinner auction. The workshop tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children. The workshop will be held in the old gym.

Idahy Federal Credit Union

The Idahy Federal Credit Union is conducting their annual Teddy Bear drive. The bears are distributed to first responders like paramedics, firefighters, and police officers to be given to children in stressed or injured situations as a means of comfort and to help them deal with the situation. You can either drop off a bear or just make a cash donation. $5.00 will purchase a bear but you can make a donation of any amount. There are two locations for Idahy, one is at 1010 North Rose Street off State Street and the other is at 9769 West Emerald, just off Mitchell Road.

Nampa Civic Center

The Junior Jammers will present their 24th annual “Country Harvest Hoedown”. There are three shows one each on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and a matinee on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm. The show is designed for the whole family and features some very talented fiddle players. The tickets are $8.00 for adults, seniors and students are $6.00 and Children 11 and under are $5.00. You can get your tickets at the door or through Nampa Civic Center box office.

Expo Idaho (Fairgrounds)

The annual Ski Swap begins today at Expo Idaho (Western Idaho Fairgrounds). If you have items to sell you can still check them in today from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm and tomorrow 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The sale itself opens at 5:00 pm tonight and goes to 10:00 pm. Tomorrow the hours are 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. It will cost you $3.00 per person to come to the ski swap but all the proceeds from the event go to the Bogus Basin Ski Racing Alliance and in turn it helps the ski team with training and travel expenses.

Nampa Civic Center

The Nampa Civic Center will be hosting the annual Soroptimist Chocolate Affair. Its two days of fun and fundraising. The event features specialty chocolate items and other items donated by local merchants. The funds raised will go to help the community in several different ways through the many activities of the Soroptimist club. The hours for the event are 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Friday and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday. There’s no charge to attend the event.

Bronco Stadium

Boise State hosts Fresno State tonight at Bronco Stadium and in addition to games, special organizations like the Salvation Army and Operation Wishbook ask fans for help, Operation Wishbook gathers new books for children across the valley and is distributed through the Salvation Army. In addition the Army will kick off their red kettle campaign tonight at half time and be collecting food at entrances of the Stadium. Part of Operation Wishbook is the relation with drama and this weekend Boise High School will present 12th night he classic by William Shakeshere.
