Idaho Gastroenterology Center

March is National Colon and Rectal Cancer Awareness Month. We spent the morning with a group of physicians from the Idaho Gastroenterology Center discussing colon cancer and how it can be detected, treated and possibly prevented. Individuals over the age of 50 should be screen for polyps and early signs of cancer. If you have a history of cancer in your family then earlier screening would be advised. Simple things like diet and exercise can also lessen your chances of ever contracting cancer.

Music Theatre of Idaho

Music Theatre of Idaho will present “Yours, Anne” the musical adaptation of the “Diary of Anne Frank” this weekend. The production will be at the Nampa Civic Center and there are only 4 shows. Tickets will be limited and you should contact the box office to get your seats at 468-2385 or you can order tickets on line at the companies web site. http://www.mtionline.org The story of Anne Frank and her family is a moving one and this is set beautifully to music, as Anne’s writing was very rhythmic and poetic. The production would be good for the entire family and will likely spark conversations between you and your children about the holocaust.

Dress for Success

Dress for Success is an organization designed to help give a hand up to women who are trying to enter the workplace. These women often don’t have any funds to buy a new outfit or make-up for a job interview. Dress for Success gives them one new thing to wear and a make over. The idea is you feel better when you look good and you can do a better on the job interview. Once successful the woman comes back for another outfit for work and can also receive clothing for their children. The women are often single mothers struggling to make ends meet and the program has made a huge difference in the lives of many. Friday is the annual fundraiser for the program. It’s a teapot sale and luncheon at the Grove Hotel. Celebrities from the local area have decorated the teapots and added some extras to them. The cost for the luncheon is $35.00 and some tickets are still available by calling 288-4405.

Edwards Greenhouse

Edwards Greenhouse will be host a spring fashion show and event for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The event will be held Saturday March 11, 2006 and the cost is $20.00 per person. In addition to the fashion show there will also be classes in constructing a terrarium and small planters. Everyone is welcome. Just a side note for those who are wondering, our live location didn’t work today because of the location of Edwards. We need to have an unobstructed view of Deer point by Bogus Basin for our signal to work and Edwards was just too close to the foothills.
