Who is your HERO?

Every week, I get e-mail from viewers who want to nominate a "7's Hero" - someone who is doing something great for the community, and giving back. Sadly, I can't get to them all - so I thought I'd BLOG about one of them that really touched my heart.
I recently got an email with a school essay attached called "MY HERO". It was written by Noah Humphreys, a young Boise boy who decided to write about his neighbor.
"The little neighbor boy, Noah, wrote this in school. His mother brought it to my parents house in Boise for my Dad. His Mom said he got an A on it. I thought I would send it on to KTVB 7's Hero. My father has been fighting lung and bladder cancer for about six years now. Helping others really helps him feel better. He is always watching out for his neighbors and helping them when they need it.
Thank You So Much, Chris Rawlins"
I thought it was definitely worth sharing with you - just to show you all that HEROES are all around us. We just have to look for them! Or maybe we just have to BE A HERO in someone's life.
MY HERO
One person that I really admire and in a way is sort of a hero is my neighbor. His name is Don Dugger. He has lived on our street for more than 40 years. He raised his kids here.
Some of the things I really like about him is that he is very talented with wood and can make just about anything. I also like the fact that he takes time to just talk to me. He and my dad are friends.
One day he made two of the girls that live across the street, Olivia and Sophia, each a pair of stilts. My sister and I tried to make some of our own first, then he made some really good ones for us. He has also made me fighting sticks, building blocks, and a key chain. He has made so many things for the kids on my street.
He is always willing to help out and he lends my dad tools and advice on how to fix things. He also buys fundraising things from me whenever I ask.
Some day I would like to be like him so I can make things for the kids that live on my street. Helping people out when they need a hand is also something I hope I can always do.

How sweet is that? It just goes to show you that even the little things add up in a child's eyes. Wouldn't it be wonderful if every little boy had a neighbor like Mr. Dugger?

Don Dugger, 7's HERO.
Maggie thanks for brightening my day with this story. It's so nice to read happy things once in awhile. I think growing up people of my generation all had a Mr Dugger on our block and I remember talking with the older couples on my street in the afternoons and weekends... I think some people still have it... we do in our subdivision near Hagerman. The folks who live there without exception are caring wonderful people who even... when My husband and I forget to put the garbage can out on Thursdays... will come over and grab drag it to the curb. Blessed is what we are... Good Job Mr. Dugger... your training another generation to care!
Noah, what a great paper. This is my Grandpa and he truly is a great guy. It is amazing the things he makes and fixes from his workshop. He has made us some great Christmas presents over the years. Love You Grandpa!

Dear Maggie,
Thank you for blogging about my husband Don Dugger. We have been married for 56 years, and he has always tried to help everyone who needs assistance. I don't think that there is a person in our life he hasn't helped with his skills in building. Our whole family appreciates you printing this. And yes, Noah is a special young man also. God bless you! Barb Dugger, Boise
