BRONCOS vs BULLDOGS

What a GAME this weekend! It was a barn burner... and there were some scary moments there. But we came out victorious! A big night for Bronco Nation indeed!
Boise or Boize?
One thing I really didn't like was listening to the ESPN announcers pronounce BOISE as BOY-ZEE all night. It drives me crazy. Then, the announcers actually had a discussion about it.... saying how you pronounce it depends on where you live in the U.S. They claim if you live in Idaho - you pronounce it Boy-see, if you live anywhere else you can pronounce it Boy-zee. Oh dear... oh dear. I don't think so!
We may need to start some sort of a letter writing campaign to ESPN - so they tell all their people how to properly pronounce the name of our great city on national television. Just an idea...???
BOISE STATE SNUGGIE?
I have great news for you... you can now buy yourself a BSU SNUGGIE! Yes, yes... you can. It's the blanket with arms! I came across this online and I had to share it with all of you. It's hysterical...

I bought my husband a SNUGGIE for Christmas - and let me tell you - they are just as comfy as they look on TV. :) This would be a hoot to wear at Bronco Stadium! You will be the envy of all of your friends! You can find them at the Bronco Shop at the Bookstore on campus, or at Bronco Shops around the area. I made some calls and found out they are $29.99! If you google it online, you can find other places to buy the Snuggie, but why not support Boise State by buying it local?

Hey Maggie, I enjoy your blog, especially with its use of bold, italics, and occasionally, both at the same time. I wish all the news stories on here were like that. Keep it up! The BSU Snuggie is totally going on my Christmas wishlist. Along with I'm sure half the Valley's wishlists. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!!! Take care and have a good weekend.
Ms. O'Mara,
I'm a freshman up at Washington State University and I read your blog today about Boise vs. Boize and can totally relate. The most common question I get asked besides "What is your name?" is "Where are you from?" My answer is always "Boy-see," but yet the response I always get is "Oh, you're from Boy-zee?" When I say "Yeah, Boy-see" I get mean looks because they don't like being corrected. My advice to people, especially those who are on national programming who have thousands and thousands of viewers, a majority of them from Idaho... If you don't want to be corrected, then say it like it's spelled!
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. The other one that gets me going is Nevada...there is no "awe" in the middle of it, yet people pronounce it that way all the time.
By the way, I love Nick's cartoons. I can't wait to see how you get saved from the vat o' acid.
Hi Ms. O'Mara-
I had to laugh reading your blog about Boy-zee vs. Boy-see... my husband and I were watching the BSU game when the commentators were having that particular discussion. I looked at him and since he is a native of Idaho and I am not (just moved from CA after our wedding 2 months ago), I asked him to pronounce "Boise", and he did say it "Boy-see" and when I tried it, yep, you guessed it, I said "Boy-zee"... hmmm... wonder if after I've lived here awhile I'll get it right?? Guess it's one way to tell the natives from the transplants! :)
