Bronco fans all over Idaho are getting pretty excited for Thursday night's season opener against the Oregon Ducks! Last night, BSU students started lining up for tickets - hundreds of them! Student tickets went on sale at 10am this morning, and these fans wanted to be sure they got their hands on some.
Bronco Camp Out
We sent our morning LIVE reporter Edgar Linares over there at 4:30am, and he was surrounded with students. Some sleeping in sleeping bags, on air mattresses, some in chairs. Some were even grilling up "DUCK" breakfast burritos.
These are serious fans here!
5000 tickets were available to students! If people were willing to camp out for them, I think it's a safe bet they will all be gone by Thursday night!
Curb Cup 2009
Here in the Treasure Valley, we have a huge arts and entertainment community.
One thing to keep in mind, the Curb Cup is interactive - you get to vote for your favorite performers and, they have the opportunity to win super prizes. Indictment: Boyfriend killed boy
For the first time, we are learning what happened to 8-year old Robert Manwill, and the details coming out of the indictments are very disturbing. This week, Robert's mother and his mother's boyfriend were arrested and each charged with first-degree murder. Melissa Jenkins, 30, and Daniel Ehrlick, 36, had their first court appearance in Boise Wednesday morning, at which time graphic details surrounding Robert's death were read in court. According to this grand jury indictment, it was not an isolated event that killed this little boy, but rather the tragic conclusion of prolonged abuse. Specifically, the grand jury said Ehrlick killed the boy by beating him - not just once, but over the course of the boy's summer visit to his mother's apartment. The indictment says Melissa Jenkins, did nothing to stop it. Not only that - it says she allegedly hid the abuse from those who could have helped Robert.
You may recall, during Robert's disappearance - Jenkins and Ehrlick were there at the news conferences with other concerned family members, wearing t-shirts and green ribbons in show of support for finding Robert. Now, investigators say they may have known where Robert Manwill was the entire time. Before his body was found in the New York Canal on August 3rd, police and the FBI spent two days searching his mother's apartment and collecting evidence. But, we still don't know what they found - or the cause of death. We must keep in mind, Jenkins and Ehrlick are presumed innocent until proven GUILTY. Their fate will be decided in the legal system. Over 2,000 people in our community participated in a massive search effort for this little boy. (You might be one of them.) On my Facebook page this morning, I've been getting a lot of feedback about the arrests. We haven't seen the evidence against this couple yet, but some people are angry, others are frustrated and want answers. What do you think about this case?

KTVB Reporter Kaycee Murray ties the knot!
Love just seems to be in the air here at Channel 7! First it was my wedding at Tamarack, then we saw our assistant News Director Xanti Alcelay get married in a BIG BASQUE WEDDING downtown - and this past weekend it was Kaycee Murray's turn...
She married Travis Emery on Saturday night, and the reception was at Banbury Golf Course. Just like at my wedding... Channel 7 makes a BIG showing! (Who doesn't LOVE a wedding?) Many of us in the KTVB family were there to watch our reporter bride take her vows. Here are a couple of snapshots of us... It's always fun to spend quality time together outside the newsroom... we all had a wonderful time at the reception dancing and celebrating - and we may have talked shop a little??? Hey, it's hard to get away from the news of the day when you're with a bunch of news people!
There were so many of us there, we should have taken a BIG group shot... maybe next time??? Lots of Channel 7 weddings lately, so the question is... who will be next??? Stay tuned... I'll be sure to give you the "Behind the Scenes" scoop!
Congrats to Kaycee and Travis!
Last week, an incredible thing happened in the foothills of Boise. Bear Camp 2009! Bear Camp gives refugee kids in our area (ages 10-18) the chance to hit the trails and learn to mountain bike in the great outdoors. 35 kids took part in the week long camp - learning all about teamwork and building self confidence.
30 volunteers donated their time to help out - people like teachers, firemen, even college students. They spent the week giving the kids much needed biking skills... skills they can use on our trails and on our streets. Organizers say it was hard to tell who was having more fun at camp, the volunteers or the kids!
The camp is completely run on donations, and the best part is the kids got to keep the bikes they used at camp! They also were given a basic bike tune up, a helmet, water bottle, and a t-shirt to remind them of the incredible week long experience.
The camp is sponsored by Sustainable Community Connections of Idaho (SCCI) and the International Rescue Committee (IRC). If you want to help out by volunteering or donating to next year's camp, please call 208-424-6665 for more information. As you can imagine, this camp is always in need of donations and BIKES! 5th Annual Brandon Titus Memorial Ride
This Saturday, ALL motorcyclists, custom cars & trucks, and the general public are welcome to take part in the 5th Annual Brandon Titus Memorial Ride. This is an all ages event! The ride helps raise money for families of military personnel who have died in action while protecting our freedom, and families of military actively deployed. All proceeds go to the Brandon Titus Memorial Fund. SPC Brandon Titus (a Boise native) was killed in action in Iraq in August of 2004. His dad, Tom Titus - started this ride to carry on his son's legacy.
Brandon Titus Memorial Ride Price: $25 Riders & $15 for General Public This Saturday - the ride starts at Boise Cycle @ 9621 Ustick Road in Boise. You can register from 9:30 - 11am. The ride will end at the Powerhouse Event Center - in Boise. If you want to take part, it's $25 per person for riders and passengers. That fee includes: *Dinner at the Powerhouse Event Center (4:30pm - 10:30pm) *If you can't take part in the ride, you can buy tickets just for the Dinner and Casino Night for $15 per person. Eunice Kennedy Shriver
Eunice Kennedy Shriver passed away early this morning in a Massachusetts hospital, surrounded by her family. She was 88. She worked hard to empower people with special needs, and she founded The Special Olympics in 1968. 3.1 million people with disabilities now participate in 228 programs in 170 nations. Those of us who live here in Idaho had the opportunity to experience her incredible legacy, when we hosted The Special Olympics World Winter Games in February.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver wasn't able to come to Idaho for the Opening Ceremony due to illness, but her children Maria Shriver and Tim Shriver were here to represent her and her devotion to the movement. What an experience that was for all of us! Something we won't soon forget.... Even before launching The Special Olympics in 1968, she was an advocate for people with special needs, and fought for the rights of the disabled. In September 1962, Shriver wrote an article about her disabled sister, Rosemary, which was published in The Saturday Evening Post. Rosemary was her inspiration to start the Special Olympics...
"It's hard for us to believe: the amazing Eunice Kennedy Shriver went home to God this morning at 2 a.m. She was the light of our lives, a mother, wife, grandmother, sister and aunt who taught us by example and with passion what it means to live a faith-driven life of love and service to others. For each of us, she often seemed to stop time itself - to run another Special Olympics games, to visit us in our homes, to attend to her own mother, her sisters and brothers, and to sail, tell stories, and laugh and serve her friends. How did she do it all? Inspired by her love of God, her devotion to her family, and her relentless belief in the dignity and worth of every human life, she worked without ceasing - searching, pushing, demanding, hoping for change. She was a living prayer, a living advocate, a living center of power. She set out to change the world and to change us, and she did that and more. She founded the movement that became Special Olympics, the largest movement for acceptance and inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities in the history of the world. Her work transformed the lives of hundreds of millions of people across the globe, and they in turn are her living legacy. We have always been honored to share our mother with people of good will the world over who believe, as she did, that there is no limit to the human spirit. At this time of loss, we feel overwhelmed by the gifts of prayer and support poured out to us from so many who loved her. Back to work!
Last week, I took the ENTIRE week off to spend a little vacation time with my crazy family... that's why there hasn't been any NEW blog entries for a while. I'm one of six kids, and an aunt to 14 nieces and nephews! (And counting... they just keep on coming) Since they all live in other states, it was great to catch up with them all.
When I came back into work this morning, I almost forgot how to do my job. A whole week of sleeping in!? When you wake up at 2am - that's pure HEAVEN.
