Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to resign
Governor Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) will not seek re-election in 2010, and will resign within the next few weeks, she told reporters Friday during an off-camera news conference at her home in Wasilla, Alaska. Palin did not say why she's stepping down.
KTUU, the NBC affiliate in Anchorage, reports that Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated as governor on July 26.
Palin was the 2008 Republican nominee for vice president. She was elected governor of Alaska in 2006. Her name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for president or vice president in 2012.
Palin, formerly Sarah Heath, is a graduate of the University of Idaho.

Armed robbery suspect arrested
Nampa police confirm they have arrested one man in connection with an armed robbery that happened in Nampa Sunday night.
The search for the second suspect continues.
The robbery happened at the Jackson's on Garrity and Stamm.
One of the men flashed a gun and demanded money from the clerk, while the other acted as a look-out.

Shots fire in Nampa
Nampa police are investigating shots fired. It happened at 1904 7th Street. One adult male occupant was hit and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The incident is currently still under investigation. There is no indication at this time that it is gang related. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 343-cops.

Cyclist dead after collision with SUV
A 37-year-old Meridian man has died after being struck by a sport utility vehicle while bicycling in North Boise.
Boise Police were called to the intersection of Hill Road and Smith Avenue at 7:44 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses told officers that several cyclists were riding together eastbound on Hill Road when a 16-year-old driving a small SUV made a left turn directly in the path of one of the cyclists. The SUV struck the cyclist, who was wearing a helmet. He was immediately taken to the hospital. The driver has not been charged.

Motorcyclist injured in collision with truck on I-84
Boise - One man was taken to the hospital after colliding with a semi-truck Tuesday evening in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 near Maple Grove.
Police say the motorcyclist hit a slick spot on the highway and slid into one of the truck's tires. He was not wearing a helmet. His condition has not been released.
Traffic was backed up for about 4 miles on Interstate 84 and also backed up onto the I-184 Connector at the Flying Wye interchange during the busy evening westbound commute from Boise.

ACHD Commission approves Roadways to Bikeways plan
The Ada County Highway District Commission unanimously approved the Roadways to Bikeways master plan Wednesday night.
The plan envisions a bicycle network that provides a designated bicycle facility within a quarter-mile of 95 percent of Ada County homes. Such a bicycle facility could take the form of a roadway signed as a bike route, a bike lane, or another type of improvement.
The $250,000 Roadways to Bikeways effort began in April 2007. The next steps include finalizing ACHD's program to schedule and build the recommended improvements.

Police: Boy shoots himself with stolen gun
New this morning, Garden City Police are investigating an overnight shooting.
Just after midnight police pulled over a car for reckless driving, one of the passengers had a gunshot wound in his thigh.
Police say a 17-year-old boy shot himself in the leg near Arney Lane in Garden City.
The boy was taken to the hospital.
Officers say the handgun was stolen from Meridian in February.
Charges will be filed against at least one of the four teens in the car.

Alberta man killed in motorcycle crash on Idaho 21
One man has died after a motorcycle crash on Idaho Highway 21 near Robie Creek.
Idaho State Police responded at 2:44 p.m. Tuesday. They say 48-year-old Trevor Richardson of High Prairie, Alberta, Canada, was traveling northbound on his Harley-Davidson when he failed to negotiate a corner properly.
Richardson was thrown into the creek nearby. He died at the scene of the crash. ISP says he was not wearing a helmet. Speed was not a factor.

Armed Robbery in Nampa
A gas station was robbed by an armed man last night in Nampa. It happened just after 11 pm at the Gem Stop gas station off Amity Road. A man with a handgun demanded cash from the store clerk before leaving on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect is described as a white male, 5'9" with a thin build. Witnesses say he was wearing a dark colored hoodie, with jeans and a mask.

Burglary overnight at Franklin Elementary
Police investigated a burglary at Franklin Elementary.
It happened about 12:30am Monday morning.
Police say two kids were caught but nothing was stolen.
