Live at Albertsons HQ

NewsChannel 7 just interviewed Supervalu CEO Jeff Noddle about today's announcement.

"What we announced today was, that, after a lot of consideration, should we be located in Boise, she we be located in Minneapolis, should we co-locate? We decided the best thing was to locate merchandise and marketing in Minneapolis," Noddle said.

Noddle said employee reaction was that it was the right decision, and he said he strongly encouraged people affected to relocate to Minnesota.

He said that it wasn't necessarily what they wanted to hear, but they understood.

Noddle said some jobs in other areas are moving back and forth between Minnesota and Boise. He said that several functional areas will remain in Boise, and be co-located in both areas.

Noddle said this arrangement is "unusual," that during mergers, usually operations are moved to one location. He also noted that of 50 company executives, 20 will stay in Boise for the time being.

Noddle said he spoke to both Gov. Jim Risch and Mayor Dave Bieter this morning. He says the company will retain an "important presence" in Boise.

Noddle says he can not give any specific numbers on the total jobs impacted, beyond the 400 in the marketing and merchandising divisions.

“We are very sensitive, and we well understand how Albertsons is to the Treasure Valley community. This is an important business center for us. We operate Albertsons stores here, we’ve given 1.1 million dollars back to the community since June 2nd,” Noddle said. “We’re trying to demonstrate that this is going to be an important center of business for our company.”

“Businesses are never static; we compete against a number of large companies. Business needs change, even without a merger,” he said. “But I’m ever going to say that we are done, because needs are constantly evolving.”
