Symmonds advances to 800m semis
FIRST ON KTVB.COM
Boise's fastest man hopes to bring home another gold medal to the City of Trees - and he's well on his way.
Bishop Kelly graduate Nick Symmonds won his heat during the time trial in Beijing, China. Symmonds won his heat in the preliminary heat of the men's 800 meter sprint with a time of 1:45.01.
The BK track star took one of two qualifying spots in his heat, along with Alfred Yego of Kenya, who finished three-tenths of a second behind Symmonds at the Beijing Bird Nest stadium made famous during the opening ceremonies earlier this month.
The 800 meter distance is two laps of the track, or just less than half a mile. Today's qualifying heat will not be aired by NBC.
Symmonds will join 23 others in the semi-final event set for early Thursday morning mountain time. If he moves on, the final will be Saturday morning - with the even airing on tape-delay during NBC's Saturday night prime-time coverage.

Police investigate possible homicide in Meridian home
FIRST ON KTVB.COM
MERIDIAN - Police are investigating a possible homicide in a Meridian home.
Two people entered a house on Snyder and Ocean Ave. near Ten Mile Rd. in Meridian Sunday to feed a cat - when they discovered a body. The victim is described as a 45-year-old man - but further details on his identity have not yet been released.
Meridian Police Chief Jeff Lavey described the scene as "bloody" and said there was obvious trauma to the man's head - but the exact cause of death is not yet known.
Lavey said the death did not happen Sunday, and that the body had been in the home for a few days.
Police say the people who found the body are friends of the victim. A victim witness coordinator is on the scene helping in the investigation.
Meridian Police and Idaho State Police's Crime Lab are working together on the case.

Bill to attract film industry passes legislature twice
A bill that aims to attract film crews to Idaho and capture the money they spend on local businesses has cleared the Idaho legislature.
Senate lawmakers voted 27-8 today to give film productions a 20 percent rebate on purchases in Idaho. Blah blah
The measure has already cleared the house. It now awaits Gov. Butch Otter's signature.

Man on the run after pointing gun at police
A traffic stop turned into a chase on foot and police are still searching for their suspect.
Police are searching for 18 year old Michael Nash of Boise.
He is a white male, 5' 8" tall, 200 lbs with a tattoo on his neck.
Nash was wearing a black hoody and blue jeans.
Police attempted to pull Nash over last night around 10:30 PM.
The traffic stop happened at State Street and 35th.
Nash, driving an older, white Chevy Blazer pulled over to the Stinker Station.
He then jumped out of the vehicle, grabbed a handgun which he pointed at officers and then ran.
Police are considering Michael Nash armed and dangerous. He does have gang affiliations in the area.
Police did contact neighbors in the area last night to warn them to be cautious. They were also asked to be on the lookout for anything unusual and to stay in their homes.

SUV crashes into house causing extensive damage
Just before 2 AM, a Boise police officer noticed a white SUV driving eastbound, in the westbound lane at a high rate of speed. The officer was nearly hit by the SUV.
An attempt to pull the SUV over, turned into a corner after corner chase through a residential neighborhood just off of State Street.
The white Ford Explorer took a very tight corner, ran off the road and struck a house on North 29th Street.
The crash took off the front porch and caused extensive damage to the entire front of the house.
A couple was inside at the time of the incident but was not injured.
The two occupants inside the SUV were also unharmed.
Officers say alcohol was a factor but do not yet know as to what extent.
The driver of the SUV is being investigated for driving under the influence.
Charges are pending.
