Two alarm house fire

Two people are recovering this morning after a two alarm fire in a Meridian neighborhood.

It happened at about 10:30 last night near Pescado Street. Neighbors called 9-1-1 after they saw flames coming from the back of the home. Firefighters say the homeowners were using a smoker and had dumped the ashes in a garbage can near the back of the home.

Fire Chief Joe Silva says the homeowners had dampened the chips they threw away but that the heat from inside possibly started the fire. No other homes were threatened, but all the rooms in the home were in damaged.
