Girl Survives Pit Bull Attack

A six-year-old Caldwell girl is recovering after surviving a pit bull attack. The family of the little girl says she will need major rehabilitation and more surgeries.

Krista Docherty, 6, was helping her next-door neighbors bring in some groceries on Tuesday. She walked in the house and that's when the attack happened.

"She was the first of the kids through the door and he just jumped on her and grabbed her face," said Traci Docherty, Krista's mother.

Krista had bites to her face and neck. Krista's mother says the dog was pulled off of her just in-time. She says 15 seconds more and Krista wouldn't be here today. Krista will need major rehabilitation to repair a droopy eye and she has stitches on her neck.

The dog that attacked Krista has already been euthanized. At this point no charges have been filed against the family that owns the dog.

Exclusive Interview: Zachary Neagle's Mother

The mother of the 14-year-old boy accused of shooting his father in the head and killing him broke her silence and spoke with Newschannel 7 exclusively.

We talked with Cindy Neagle late Tuesday night, hours after burying her ex-husband Jason Neagle, 33. "He was a good father, and I felt like he instilled very good values in their lives," said Cindy Neagle.

Zach's mother says her son is good boy and is still distraught about the whole situation.

Neagle added that she never suspected possible abuse occurring at Jason's home. "I never suspected it. We hadn't lived together for along time, so I can't be positive on it. It would have not been at the top of my mind," said Neagle.

We asked her about Zachary and what kind of boy he is. Neagle said he's active and loving, "he loves his family and would do anything for them. He's a mama's boy," added Neagle. "I'm angry he's in there [Canyon County Jail] at all, no matter what he's charged with."

Zachary's attorney, Charles Craft says he's building a potential sex abuse case against the prosecution. "Well, I can say this, the prosecution is looking at this like a murder case and I'm looking at this like a potential sex abuse case, or a potential physical abuse case," said Craft.

Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak says Zachary's is innocent until proven guilty. Bujak also answered why Zachary Neagle is charged with first degree murder, "...the reason it's murder one is because murder contemplates a premeditated act and so here we have someone who has allegedly shot his father while he was sleeping on the sofa. So you can't claim that this is self defense. There's no evidence at least at this point that he acted as a crime of passion."

We asked Cindy Neagle what went through her mind when she saw Zachary in shackles, "..not a 14-year-old. I mean he's a very bright boy but that's not what he looked like in that picture. Just broken down I guess." said Cindy Neagle. "I did get to talk to him on the phone today [Tuesday] and sounds like he's staying pretty strong," Neagle added that she may get to see him today.

Cindy Nealge says with Zachary behind bars and her ex-husband Jason gone she feels like she's lost two people instead of one.

Zachary is expected to be back in court on June 3rd.
