One man is dead after a head-on crash on Highway 45 just north of Lake Shore Drive, and the man he was riding with is charged with vehicular homicide.

Canyon County Sheriff's Deputies responded just before 6 p.m.

Witnesses told deputies that a blue 1996 Honda Accord was driving southbound on Highway 45 at speeds between 85 and 100 miles per hour, and passing cars recklessly.
Deputies say the Honda was attempting to pass a line of cars when it collided head-on with a 1995 Saturn, which was driven by a 40-year-old woman.
She was flown via Life Flight to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries.

The driver of the Honda, 27-year-old Gustavo Valencia, was also flown to St. Al's with unknown injuries.

His passenger, whom deputies have identified only as "possibly a 28-year-old Nampa man," died at the scene.

Valencia was released from St. Al's at about 11:30 p.m. Monday, arrested, and booked into the Ada County Jail on a charge of vehicular manslaughter.

Deputies believe alcohol contributed to the accident. Toxicology results are pending.
