Grassfire threatens homes in the foothills

A fire in the foothills late Monday night threatened homes in the Hidden Springs area.

Boise Fire responded to a report of a grass fire in the foothills just after 11 p.m.

Several agencies responded to the fire that covered about three acres of land.

The fire was quickly put out, and no homes were damaged in the blaze.

Deputy Chief Dave Hanneman tells Newschannel 7 that they suspect fireworks are to blame for causing the fire.

Officials are still on the scene, and monitoring the area.

Armed robbery at 7-11 on Ustick

Police are searching for a man who robbed a 7-11 early this morning.

The robbery happened at the gas station on Maple Grove and Ustick, just before 3 a.m.

Police say a man wearing dark clothing entered the convenience store, displayed some kind of weapon, and left on foot with cash.

Police won't say what kind of weapon was shown to the clerk, but they say the suspect is a white male, in his early 20s, wearing dark clothing.

The manager of the convenience store tells us he the suspect had his face covered with some kind of clothing.

The manager also told us they do have surveillance cameras inside their store.

Crop duster plane crash south of Glenns Ferry

A crop duster plane crashed just before 7:30 a.m. in Elmore County.

Dispatch confirms the plane crashed seven miles south of Glenns Ferry, on Noble Road.

Train hits truck in Kuna overnight

A train hit a truck in Kuna and no one was hurt.
It happened at 12:30am on Swanfalls Road near Shortline.

Deputies say two people were in a truck waiting for the railroad crossing gate to open.
They got impatient and decided to go around it and ended up getting high centered.

Deputies say they saw the train approaching and got out of the truck.

The truck is a total loss and the driver was arrested for DUI.

Deadly accident claims life of Caldwell man

A deadly accident just before one this morning took the life of a 25-year old man from Caldwell.

The accident happened at the intersection of Lower Pleasant Ridge and Allendale Road.

Police say they received a report of a vehicle in a field and that a man had been thrown from a car.

25-year old Jose Maceda, Jr. of Caldwell was found about 200 feet away from the car.

He was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

20-year old Raul Cuevas of Greenleaf was found outside of the car as well.

Cuevas was taken to a hospital with injuries.

Canyon County Sheriff's Office indicated that there is evidence that the two were traveling at a high rate of speed and that neither was wearing a seatbelt.

They say it is unclear who was driving.

Nampa house fire

Police are looking for someone who started a fire at a Nampa home last night.

It happened around 11:45pm on 36 North and Sunset street in Nampa.

Nampa police says it started in the basement and the fire was mostly out when they arrived on scene.

No one was in the home during the fire.
Police say the family was at another location at a b-b-q when it happened.

They believe it was intentionally set -- and they are investigating who might have done it.

Man dead after holding wife and infant daughter hostage in Boise

Boise Police say a father took his own life after holding his wife and baby hostage in a north end apartment.

The incident happened on 28th Street and Sunset avenue.

Officers say just after 9:00 p.m, Sunday night, a woman called dispatch claiming her 33-year-old husband was holding her and her baby hostage.

Police say the woman escaped and called police, but the man was still in the apartment with the woman's five-month-old baby girl.

Investigators say it was reported the man had access to numerous fire arms inside the house.

Hostage negotiators and victim witness personnel were all called in to assist. Negotiators attempted to contact the man several times with no success.

Lieutenant Doug Doney with the Boise Police Department says some time later offices heard a gunshot and that's when they moved in, "We actually heard a gunshot come from the residence. Our special operations team made entry into the residence after that. We found that he was deceased and the 5-month-old girl was ok, she's since been reunited with her mom." said Doney.

Close to 50 police cars responded to the call and closed off several streets during the incident.

Police say the woman did receive some injuries by her husband, the extent of those injuries have not been reported, and officers say the baby was not injured.

Boise Police report the man did have extensive criminal background.

The incident is still under investigation.

Man missing since Friday found dead in a Boise park

The body of a man missing since Friday was found by a passerby in a Boise park.

Curtis Williams, 49, of Boise last spoke to his family on June 6, while he was in the Barber Park area.

His vehicle was later found there, and yesterday, his body was found in a wooded area there as well.

Evidence indicates that Williams committed suicide, likely the same day he went missing.

Security video of morning robbery suspect released

Officers are searching for a suspect who held up a convenience store clerk at knifepoint early this morning, and demanded cash.

Officers responded to the Maverik station on Five Mile and Victory, just after 5 a.m.

Above is a picture of the robber caught on the Maverik station security cameras.

Officers tell us the suspect was armed with what looked like an 8 inch kitchen knife.

Sgt. Mike Rowe with Ada County Sheriff's Office tells us the suspect was a white male, about 40-50 years old, wearing a black beanie on his head, and a white and black bandana over his face.

Pedestrian hit by car, injured in Nampa

Nampa dispatch has confirmed that a pedestrian was struck by a car late last night in Nampa.

The accident happened at Caldwell Boulevard and Canyon Rd.

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries.

Juvenile arrested, charged with aggravated battery

Nampa police responded to a possible stabbing early this morning.

At about 1:30 a.m., police arrived at the 2600 block of Bright Street.

There they say they found a juvenile male with a stab wound to the chest.

The victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

Nampa police say officers located another male juvenile on the 2900 block of Bright Street, who they have identified as the suspect.

The man was arrested and has been charged with aggravated battery.

He is currently being held at the Canyon County Juvenile Detention Center.

Crash partially blocks I-84 Westbound

One lane is still blocked on I-84 westbound near New Plymouth.

Idaho State Police and Payette County responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash westbound I-84 at milepost 9, just before 5 a.m. this morning.

Currently one lane is blocked due to the crash.

ISP dispatch has confirmed that there were two people in the vehicle.

We do know there were injuries, and life flight did respond to the accident.

Child killed by falling rock

A child is dead after a boulder fell from a hill and struck a car headed towards Swan Falls Dam in Kuna.

Ada County Sheriff's deputies confirmed the death Monday night saying a car was hit by a falling rock while driving on the road towards the water.
The rock struck the rear driver's side of the car and landed on a 6 year old girl sitting in the back seat.

Ada County Paramedics and LifeFlight prounounced the child dead on scene.
Two adults and one other child in the car were not hurt.

Three alarm fire at Middleton home

A three-alarm fire broke out this morning at about 5 a.m. at a home in Middleton.

Downed power line shuts down I-84 near Nampa

A power line is down and hanging about ten feet above the freeway near Nampa, blocking traffic on I-84 completely.

The interstate is shut down from milepost 33 (Karcher Rd.) to milepost 36 (Franklin Rd).

Idaho Power says a transformer blew, catching the power pole on fire, causing it to break.

About 1300 Idaho Power customers are without power right now.

Power is also out in the area of the downed power line, so traffic is being directed by Nampa police.

Idaho Power has told Newschannel 7 that they are waiting for a crane to come from Boise, to help remove the wood that is hanging over the road, and hold the power lines up while they replace the power pole.

Customers living from Chinden, south to the Nampa railroad tracks are without power, as are customers from east to west, from Blackcat Road to Midway.
