McCall City Council passes resolution
The McCall City Council passes a resolution allowing the city to file Chapter 9 bankruptcy, but they did so conditionally.
In an unexpected move an attorney from Wausau, one of the parties in litigation with McCall attended tonight’s meeting and with spontaneous prompting from those in the audience he agreed and the city council agreed to explore negotiations once again.
This case has been bounced around the courts since 2001. It stems from a dispute between the city of McCall and a contractor that built the city's water treatment facility. A judge has ordered the city to immediately pay the contractor $6.5 million.
Just last month Wausau filed a motion to hold the city in contempt of court. City leaders say if approved by a judge that motion would bring the city to a standstill with no city services allowed to operate.
Tonight the city council said if Wausau agrees to drop the contempt of court petition then it will not file for bankruptcy. If it can't be negotiated between the parties involved McCall will file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection.

A slideoff is reported at mile post 91, and an accident involving a camper trailer at mile post 97. A SUV slid off the interstate at mile post 73 in the westbound lanes. Our NewsChannel 7 crew says visibility on the interstate 84 is extremely poor.
Traffic is only going about 20-30 miles per hour. Motorists are urged to avoid driving, if possible.
We are hearing word of difficult and dangerous conditions in Eastern Oregon where blowing snow is making interstate travel very difficult. I-84 is open in Oregon at this hour.
