Air Quality Alert: Yellow

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has issued a YELLOW air quality alert for today.
All open outdoor burning is prohibited in Ada and Canyon County by municipal and county ordinance. Fireplaces and woodstoves are also banned in many areas of the Treasure Valley.
Officials ask that you please consider taking some of the following actions to reduce air pollution during this time:
- Limit driving
- Combine trips & errands
- Don't burn outdoors

Overnight fire damages Boise home

Boise firefighters quickly doused an overnight house fire.
Flames sparked at a home on the 500 block of North Liberty just after 2:30 a.m.
Dispatchers say the family got out of the home safely.
Firefighters contained the blaze to a single room, but say smoke damaged the entire home.
The cause of that fire is still under investigation.

Shots fire, standoff at Jerome residence

An suspect involved in a standoff in Jerome has been taken into custody. Shots were fired at the home and law enforcement agencies from across the Magic Valley were trying to talk a man with a gun inside a Jerome residence. Police told us that he was the only person inside.
The man's name is not being released but dispatch operators tell us -- he is wanted for a probation violation out of Texas.
The original charge he already served time for is homicide.
We should learn more details this morning.

Nampa man hospitalized after overnight fire

Nampa man hospitalized after overnight fire

One man is in the hospital, after a fire broke out overnight in Nampa.
Firefighters say a motor home went up in flames just after 2 a.m., 11000 block of Moss Lane.
One person was inside at the time of the fire, he was taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation.
The fire gutted the motor home, but firefighters were able to keep it from spreading.
Investigators are trying to determine exactly what caused the blaze.

Car smashes into Dairy Queen

Boise Police are looking for the driver who crashed his car into a Dairy Queen restaurant near Curtis and Franklin.
It happened around 2:30 a.m.
Police say the driver took off, dragging a garbage can for nearly 200 feet.
Officers found the car south of Overland near Curtis and Camas, but they are still looking for the driver.

Marsing Armed Robbery

Owyhee County deputies are searching for an armed robbery suspect. Clerks called police from the Snake River Mart, and said that a man armed with a semi-automatic gun demanded money and fled after 11p.m. The armed suspect left on foot. We do have surveillance photos, they will be aired on Today's Morning News. If you have any information on this armed robbery please call the Owyhee County Sheriff's office at (208) 495-1154.

Nampa man critically wounded by gunshot

Just after 9 p.m. Friday, January 19, Nampa Police officers responded to the 2700 block of South Sonoma for a gunshot victim. Officers found a 56-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to the chest -- on the left side. The victim was taken to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, and is listed in critical condition.
Police interviewed several witnesses at the scene. The preliminary investigation, police say, indicates that the gunshot was not intentional.
The Nampa Police Department continues to investigate.

2 Alarm Boise house fire

Two people escaped a chimney fire at a home on the 2200 block of Gossamer Lane in Boise. The fire broke out after 12 a.m. Once firefighters arrived to the scene they noticed the smoke coming from the back of the home. After a some short time on the scene they saw an explosion which caused a much bigger blaze, resulting in a 2 alarm fire. No one was injured in that fire. Firefighters were able to contain it to the home, and the cause is still under investigation.

ISP investigating deadly accident in Canyon County

Idaho State Police and Canyon County Sheriffs Department are investigating an accident involving a semi and a passenger car.
The crash happened just before 4 a.m., at the intersection of El Paso and Hollow Road in Canyon County.

Caldwell Police searching for armed robbery suspect

Caldwell Police are investigating an armed robbery at a hotel.
Hotel employees say a man wearing a ski mask walked into the Sundowner Motel on the 1000 block of East Aurthur, showed a gun and demanded money.
The robbery happened just after two a.m.
Police say the suspect took off with the cash.
Officers are searching for a white male about 5'6'', 140.

Murphy man arrested for taking Owyhee County volunteer fire truck on a joy ride

Canyon County Sheriff's Office Deputies spotted a fire truck driving northbound on Highway 45 at about Locust Lane. The large green truck had its lights and sirens on so Deputies called dispatchers to see if they knew what the truck was responding to.
Canyon County dispatchers were unaware of any emergency situation that the fire truck would be responding to.
Deputies followed the truck as it continued northbound on 12th Avenue, entering Nampa City Limits.
The truck circled through the Paul's Market parking lot with its lights and sirens still on.
Deputies found out the truck belonged to the Murphy Reynolds Wilson Volunteer Fire Department in Owyhee County.
Deputies stopped the vehicle on Highway 45 at Stage Coach Road. The only occupant in the truck was an adult male driver, who was identified as 30-year-old Winston Keith Goering III, of Murphy, Idaho.
Goering was arrested and booked into the Canyon County Detention Center for DUI and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Deputies are following up on how Goering gained access to the vehicle. Goering is a member of the volunteer fire department but according to authorities there he has not been recently active with the fire department.

Overnight fire guts Eagle garage

The Eagle Fire Department is on the scene of a two-alarm garage fire.
Flames sparked just after 3 a.m., on East Hogan Street, just off of Floating Feather near the Eagle Hills Golf Course.
When firefighters arrived, flames fully engulfed the garage. Neighbors say the blaze threatened a nearby home, but crews managed to contain the fire to the garage and part of the house.
Dispatchers say a family of four was inside the home at the time of the fire, but did get out safely.

Petersen named national coach of the year

Petersen named national coach of the year

Thursday night Chris Petersen became the first Boise State coach to win a national coaching award by taking home the most prestigious coaching honor in college football.

Petersen was named the Paul Bear Bryant National Coach of the Year as voted on by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association of America.

It is the most prestigious coaching award in college football dating back to 1957 with Ohio State’s Woody Hayes being the first recipient.

Other winners include a who's who of college greats including Joe Paterno, Bo Schembechler, Lou Holtz and BYU's Lavell Edwards just to name a few. Last year's recipient was Mac Brown of Texas.

Petersen led Boise state to a perfect 13-and-0 record and a Fiesta Bowl upset over Oklahoma in his first season with the Broncos.

Motorist alert from Boise Police

Boise Police are urging motorists to drive slow and expect their commute to take extra time, while snow continues to fall making roads very slick in and around Boise City.
Officers report the connector into Boise from I-84 is very slick.
Slide-offs are also being reported on the Interstate between Meridian
and Boise.
Snow is also accumulating on side streets that have
not yet been plowed, meaning motorists need to slow down well before
intersections to avoid sliding into cross traffic.
So far, police are not aware of any serious injury accidents. Officers want to alert motorists of the treacherous conditions of the morning commute, and urge drivers to take it slow and be careful. Expect your morning commute to take considerably longer than usual.



Boise woman killed in overnight accident

Boise woman killed in overnight accident

The Boise Police Department is investigating a one-car accident that left one woman dead.
The crash happened just before 1 a.m., at Bannock and First, in downtown Boise.
Officers say the driver of a Ford Escort drove into a concrete pillar.
The passenger, a 32-year-old Boise woman, had to be extricated from the car.
She was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her name has not been released.
The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Peter Goodwin, was charged with vehicular manslaughter and booked into the Ada County Jail.

Firefighters quickly contain Boise hotel fire

The Boise Fire Department is investigating a water heater fire at the Plaza Suite Hotel, on the 400 block of South Cole Road.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene around 7:30 a.m.
Crews quickly contained the blaze. The fire caused very minimal damage, and no one was injured.

Injury accident causing lane closures on I-84

Idaho State Police Troopers and Ada County Paramedics are responding to an injury crash eastbound on Interstate 84 approximately half of a mile past Eagle Road. Only the far left lane remains unblocked at this time and there is one male subject complaining of head injuries. Thick congestion for over four miles. Man arrested after firing a shot at a car

Nampa Police arrested a man after they say he fired a shot at an occupied vehicle.
It happened yesterday afternoon on East Sheridan Avenue and South Diamond Street in Nampa.
Police say two people were inside the car when the shot was fired.
No one was injured.
Officers arrested Martin Lara of Nampa.
He is booked into the Canyon County Jail.
Police charged Lara with aggravated assault with a firearm.

Rollover accident kills two

The Payette County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that Two women are dead after a Jeep Wrangler lost control and rolled.
The accident happened just after two a.m., on westbound I-84 at milepost 15.
Four women were in the Jeep at the time it rolled.
Bobbie Davis, 18, and Angelina Cabrera, 19, both of Payette, died at the scene.
Two others were taken to the hospital. One was flown by helicopter, the other was transferred by ambulance to Holy Rosary Medical Center.
Sheriff's deputies say slick roads may have caused the accident.
